The backlash should be against Disney for jumping in on the cash cow that is gay GP movies now after Love Simon and Call Me By Your Name

It's transparent and they're just out for $. It's called exploitation.

Do people realize he’s an ACTOR. They are literally paid to play characters that they aren’t lol

"My name is Dita, I'll be your Mistress tonight..."

I hope Disney do the correct thing, at that is deleting completely the gay character.

People are making fuzz out of a stupidity, actor are meant to act as a person they are not because that is acting, they earn the oportunity of being in the cast of a movie because they act good and fit the character perfectly, not because they are gay.

Hope Disney and all the major Hollywood studios start doing the correct for finishing this kind of stupid movement, for exmaple: if they do not want Scarlett playing the trans, fine the movie will never happen, if they want a gay actor being a gay character, then fine, the character dissapear from the movie or it will not be gay (and no other character in the movie will be).

especially when there are actual LGBT actors begging for the chance

Shouldn't they hire the best actor for the role and not the one who begs the most?

I'd rather the actor have lived the role instead of pretentiously thinking they can relate to the struggles of being gay, coming out and finding love.

Acting is acting. That's the point of the job to pretend you're somebody else. Unless you do an autobiography you will never "live the role"

My issue isn't straight people playing Gay roles as much as it is MOSTLY straight people play gay roles, especially the big and important ones.

Because most of AAA actors are straight. Most of the time, you are not able to know if they are straight or gay in real life If you don't know the actor - that's why hiring a straight or gay actor doesn't matter. We are not any different, so why should some roles be "reserved" for gays/straights?

This is annoying and idiotic. You don’t have to be gay to play a gay character, you don’t have to be straight to play a straight one. Deal with it and shut up. Be glad we’re gettimg representation.

Funny since many "AAA" actors got their big break playing Gay roles. So not really.

Ummmmm LeFou was the first official Gay character. Thanks for trying though. Also, what’s the point of acting if we just have people playing what they are in life anyways?

Oh please, what a piece of crap. Why "backlash on twitter" is even a thing?

Brokeback Mountain, the best gay love story with hetero actors remains unbothered :classy:

Love Simon made $66M and Call Me By Your Name did $41M. Though it is a lot, it’s not a cash cow when you’re talking about Disney movies. I think this movie would have been just fine without a gay character. For one, it’s starring The Rock. It’s based on a super popular Disneyland ride and it also is gonna star Emily Blunt, who is playing Mary Poppins in the sequel. I really think it’s a stretch to say they are adding a gay character for money.

If anything its a step in the right direction.  I personally don’t care about who plays the character because I know the main focus will not be that character. People just love to complain about castings before even giving the film a chance to be released. That being said, I am not too thrilled about the idea of this movie in general because it’s based on the beloved ride. I just hope the ride itself doesn’t receive and additions to characters from the movie.
