That's some Nazi sh*t right there.

Might as well just come out and say "we must protect the purity of the Aryan race" :laughga: Trudeau goes a little more ham than he needs to on the social issues ("people-kind", is a great example :rip:) but it's hardly detrimental to anyone who doesn't just find it mildly annoying.

Diverse doesn’t mean necessarily equal or openness.

Try to walk with a kippah in more some ‘diverse’ districts or try to hold you boyfriends hand.

Openess needs to work in both directions.

What you are implying is that Canadians are extremely gay-friendly and tolerating, and the immigrants are somehow 'tainting' this. I have seen some pretty backwards attitudes from people whose families have probably been living here for 200 years. :laughga: I know people of color who have moved into affluent, majority-white suburbs and become targets of racism (but of course, you'll never hear about that on the news because Canada is a utopian multicultural paradise! :poot:). I also know plenty of "Canadians" who think gays should go to hell. :poot:

Anyone is capable of ignorance -- doesn't matter if your roots stretch back far into the country's history or you just arrived here yesterday. Saying that we should limit the number of "others" into our society in order to preserve our "Canadian identity" (whatever that is) is not only foolish, but dangerous.

I have no problem with multiculturalism but as a gay mam I do have a problem with these minorities' conservative and homophobic views that they are bringing and keeping

I never said Canadians can be bigoted as well. :poot: that isn’t an argument to let other bigoted people in the country as well.

Look at France. Due to mainly imported anti-semitism the Jewish population is declining.

He’s right :golfclap:

Living in Sweden I’ve seen this firsthand. And I am honestly concerned about where my country is headed. Sweden has always been famous for being open-minded, good to LGBT etc. If we keep bringing in people of cultures who don’t share that view, I am honestly worried about not being able to be openly gay in public.

That’s just one example. Go ahead, call me a nazi :awesome:

If he doesn’t want diversity, then he should leave. He’s disrupting the true culture of Canada; First Nations peoples.

But seriously, it sounds to me he’s just trying to enforce white Canadian culture. And in all honesty, there’s no such thing :ladyhaha:

Canada is diverse. Our culture comes from the people who make this country. And that is everyone from around the world.

First of All Canada has long been a land of immigrants. Very little originated from here. You can think of a few things like maple syrup, the modern version of poutine, Calgary stampede etc but our culture is just a mix of cultures especially in the cities where 81% of people live in this Country

Secondly it is true that some immigrants have opinions that don't conform to our values but they rarely force it on others...

Also their children typically adapt to North American culture just fine even if there's some residual influence from their parents so it's not like immigrants are going to cause some permanent harm with some lineage of messes up thinking that can't be fixed

Also they enhance our quality of life because of a higher percentage of immigrants now are what's called "economic immigrants" where it's mostly young immigrants with skills and education we are in shortage of

Also given our low birth rates high immigration rates have prevented us from having deteriorating aging demographics to the same severity as much of the rest of the developed world

The biggest downside to immigration I think is that its making our housing shortage even worse but even that could improve if the Peovincial governments in Ontario and BC would relax the strict zoning laws that slow down construction.

@Woolfsmck @Luc @Born To Slay @PartySick I like hearing your opinions on immigration

I'm not sure how to respond to such a statement.

Any multicultural society would fit as a radical.

Probably the only true 'natives' would be the Inuit or Eskamo people's.

He does have a point and he has actually phrased it quite well to not put the blame on immigrants.

There needs to be limits with immigration otherwise you end up with the issue I’ve seen first hand in the U.K. - Developers can’t keep up with demand for new affordable housing and this shoves more and more people coming here for the opportunities having nowhere to go bar the same pockets that have lacked investment for too long and have no opportunities. These pockets often have high crimes rates, high levels of unemployment and higher drug rates etc so it’s really not areas that we need to put more people in that are going to be financially struggling on arrival.

If I was from a less well-off country, I would do exactly the same and go to where I believe good opportunities for me and my family are but a “door wide open” policy puts a huge strain on existing infustructure and civilians and often puts poor migrants in a worse situation than they were.

Toronto by many rankings is considered the most multicultural city in the world and it's perfectly safe for a gay to walk out. What I find is that when immigrants are respected they in turn respect our society back. Most immigrants are not vocal about things they disagree with her at least not in an activist level

You see American born people from red States be way more problematic about accepting new social standards than immigrants who come here tbh

About straining infrastructure I agree to an extent. We have a housing shortage in Toronto and our high immigration rates aggravate it (tho strict zoning laws for construction are also partially to blame)

On the rest u said, I think in part that depends on how society treats, accepts and manages new immigrants

Immigrants have to start a new life from scratch, it's harder and they can be disadvantaged. Of course it's not surprising there might be higher crime or drugs among them

Here in my city, whites are a minority yet the parts of the city with government housing and low income slums are filled mostly by white people not the immigrants

If a Nation is not fully used to ppl of colour, doesn't have a system to help them integrate and offer some support early on etc, its natural there will be more issues.

Here's another thought that crossed my mind. In my Country immigration has been a huge thing since the last century. Many immigrants already have family here that already has their life together and connections etc so they have support and don't have to end up in slums

Some Nations (I don't know about UK I'm generalizing) have only in more recent times increased immigration...

This new wave of non-white immigrants will face more prejudice, a harder life because in many cases they have no established family in their new country to help them etc

So when it comes to drugs and slums, a big issue may be the challages they are thrown not their attitudes themselves

Here in the Toronto area I don't necessarily see immigrants having all the slots taken in slums and high crime areas,

In fact in my suburb city of 600,000 ppl (not a tiny city) it's mostly Indian, Pakistan, and Carabeans like from Jamaica. Indians alone in Brampton outway the whites nevermind if you add the rest of the ones I mentioned

Yet the Majority of the slums is made up of what ppl call "white trash" in high crime areas with drug abuse and welfare

So I'm not seeing the same pattern your describing!

What I think is upsetting that he kinda has a point. Liberals seem to be completely fine with intolerance (when it’s done by a minority)

Not shaking the hand of a woman because she is a woman is sexist and doesn’t deserve tolerance.

Being against gay marriage is homophobic and doesn’t deserve tolerance.

No one tolerates this.

But when someone who hates muslims tells me I should hate muslims because I'm gay, excuse me no. I will hate homophobic people and Islamophobic people both. It's not one or the other, baby child.
