Experts say Saudi Arabia sending diplomats home, freezing new trade with Canada Ending most direct Flights to Canada, recalling students studying in Canada and selling off assets in Canada will hurt the Saudis way more than Canada

 

Saudi Arabia is only 0.4% of Canada's trade and 0.1% of GDP. On average the economy grows by more than that in one month making the economic damage insignificant. The city of London would take the biggest local hit as they have a large plant making military equipment for the Saudis

 

Saudi Arabia on the otherhand is trying to get global investment to shift it's economy from relying on Oil so much and needs mote educated workforce, trade relations and investment

 

By being so harsh over a few statements on women's rights, they send the message that if you cross a little line there will be severe retaliation, and they send the message that a relationship with them is unreliable and may make investors think twice about dealing with them more tightly.

 

By recalling students they make their problems of an under-educated workforce even worse

London is the city I was thinking of moving to if I bought a house cuz it's cheaper there but still a nice medium sized city with all the conveniences nearby

 

Of course it just has to be the one city to take the biggest jobs hit

The new Saudi Prince which has began ruling seems slightly more open to more human freedom (for example he allowed women now to drive)

 

But on the otherhand he seems more aggressive if ppl try to push him past what he's prepared to allow. He's also been strengthening Saudi Arabian Military further

 

So it's seems to be a trade off with the new leader

Think that it's nice that you won't live in a city in which jobs are dependent on such an ugly thing, if there's really a remarkable loss of jobs in the weapon industry

That is super counter productive behavior. Like those people who would quits friendships than do something out of their comfort zone that their friends encourage them to do for this person's own good.

True. But it will affect the sectors not related to that industry by increasing unemployment

 

My Province (Ontario) has struggled for over a decade to compete in manufacturing, jobs lost there will not come back

 

Most job growth has been in Corporate and High tech sector (office jobs in buildings). That growth has been concentrated in the Toronto area mostly, little of that growth spills over to medium sized cities 2 hours away from the large metropolis regions

 

Anyway it was a plan I had cuz unemployment isn't horrible there and it's big enough to be convenient (I think around 400,000 people) but much cheaper than In Toronto and surrounding cities

 

If the economy deteriorates there and doesn't fully recover like Winsor (another city in my Province close to Detroit) when it lost car plants, I may have to rethink my plans.

Typical behavior of an authoritarian regime, trying (and failing) to look good to the world with cosmetic reforms but still oppressive and repressive at the core. We've seen this before multiple times.

I just searched up the population, London had 384,000 people as of 2016 so it must be a little under 400,000 now

 

So I'd call that medium size? It's smaller than my city (Brampton: 600,000 people) and I live in the Suburbs already
