I see what you're saying, and for the most part I agree with it. After taking time to fully digest this information—I don't plan on going to into the industry, but I love movies, and this stuff genuinely interests me—I can definitely understand where a lot of people are coming from.

That being said, there is one thing that still bugs me, and I probably should have made this more clear in my original post, but what bugs me is the hypocrisy. Haven't people (I'm mainly speaking about the general public, not necessarily people who are 'educated' in the film industry) said that they should add this type of category? I don't know, it just seems very strange and odd that people want to see popular films (like those of Logan and Wonder Woman) get recognized—as they should—but then complain about adding in a category that I've heard so many people say they want? That's what upsets me. It's not necessarily the cateogry itself, or what it represents, but the fact that people are now complaining that they're noticing popular films when they wanted them to do so in the first place.

Ah yes, but I think this will always happen. People demand stuff and then when it gets added people are not happy about it. Tbh I never really demanded a category like this, I rather would have loved if it would be split by genres? Resulting in a new Best Picture category from all those, but it's just wishful thinking. To just add one new category that is not yet even defined by rules or else seems for now kind of like a wrong choice (for wrong reasons too).

The most people getting annoyed at that are people those that are critics, working in the industry, cinema enthusiasts so far. At least in my surroundings, I have not yet seen way too many people being excited about it.

And who knows, maybe we discuss here for nothing and the addition might be success or not :green: I just have my doubts for now, but I am open to accept it if no messes are made with it.

The Academy is going to regret this in the long term. If this ends up happening, the category will most likely only last a few years anyway, and isn't going to improve ratings in the long-term, it'll only attract fairweather fans to the Oscars who only watch blockbusters to feel welcome and catered to, and reduce the attention given to smaller budget indie movies that the Oscars usually champion.
