What if Gaga’s career went like this?

2011: ARTPOP

So she could still be provocative but I think that with ARTPOP she would have gotten more success single wise cause ARTPOP is more radio friendly than BTW.

2013: Joanne

So she can shock everyone by going soft before it was even a trend.

2016: BTW

What a year to release a political album right before a presidential election.

So what are your thoughts on this?

Interesting.

Though, I don't really know if serving a full pop album 3rd time in a row would work, probably release Joanne in 2012 and an EP with the best songs from ARTPOP + a single in 2013

Honestly I think having Gaga being toned down look wise & music wise would have shocked the GP and they would have probably liked it more than ARTPOP. Plus ARTPOP really was what she was doing since the beginning of her career so having it as her 3rd album would have made it come full circle.

Born This Way wouldn't have been as powerful in 2016. When the song was released in 2011, gay marriage still wasn't legal throughout the US, President Obama still hadn't publicly stated his support for same-sex marriage, the Defense of Marriage Act was still alive and well, Don't Ask Don't Tell had been repealed just months before, the UN still didn't endorse gay rights, and only half of Americans supported same-sex marriage.

Very interesting! Especially the thing about a stripped down era as her third album. I agree that it may had prolonged her peak in a way. But it's just speculation and there are plenty of other things that could have occurred... And sound-wise Gaga's albums don't fit well outside their release year.

mess, BTW would have ended her career in 2016 lol

people are terrified of being branded a "SJW" and the alt-right would have done the most to dig up dirt on her, they already managed to get pizzagate going and james gunn fired

people are sick of politics because it's now inescapable. the boom of social media has given everybody a voice and now that the world's problems are more noticable than ever, it's SO much easier to say "who cares? get over it omg you're such a SJW" instead of actually doing the right thing

so yeah, a politically charged album like BTW would have just p*ssed people off more than done good plus the music would flop :emma:

So BTW should have never existed then. :selena:

Smother Em Eh

Interesting but her career wouldn’t really flow all that well as you think tbh.

I wouldn't have been mature enough to appreciate ARTPOP in 2011, so no. I like it the way it was
