I think it's a bit much to keep the cell phone at home altogether - maybe in a locker, but I hope the results are outstanding and other countries start to adopt this. Well if you have fun distractions you can chose fun distractions over a work that you would have oneotherwise tho. Guest Posted August 1, 2018 Share Posted August 1, 2018 I was in high school around the time smartphones started to become a thing, but a lot of people just had basic phones. My school still banned them and other electronic devices (like iPods) during school hours. It just kind of depended on the teacher, like I remember study hall nobody cared, but something like math or history, usually the teacher wasn't down with it. I always kept my phone on vibrate, and if I needed to text, I'd sneak it under my desk or just go to the bathroom. People don’t communicate at school by passing notes asking about crushes and giggling at a lunch table about Derrick with the cute butt anymore. They communicate by sending nudes on Snapchat and posting sunsets on Instagram with their iPhones Xs and then laughing at the poor kids still stuck with a six. When I was in middle school, I was very shy and at some point the friends I had made at the beginning left me and I was on my own. After a while I tried to join other people and I stuck around them. I wasn't talking much at first but they accepted me and I opened up over the years. Now they are my closest friends. Had I had a smartphone back then and it was allowed, I would have used it during the lunch/breaks etc instead of trying to go meet people, because it is the easy solution. Maybe I would have been less bullied but how many friends would I have at the end of the day ? The only GGD member who can read / Credits to Celloo Deng for the profile pic! We don't discredit them at all we just say they could have done as well without according to us... Well you can bring tech in many different ways. It's just that individual cellphones usage can be tricky. No I didn't I just said that comparing an useful creation with no additional risks ( the car) to a creation with advantages that can be replaced very well by school materials and can also be tricky was not a valid one imo. Well even they did know how to deal with them, once the temptation is available you have a risk they cede to it. I agree that it could be given back to the students for the break but the positive point of it will be that it will force students to learn how to socialize a bit more. In my class nearly everybody jump on a smartphone during the break while a while ago we were talking and not going in a virtual place asap. I mean even gaga talk about the studies about how spending a lot of time on a screen was making you depressed. Young folks globally spend a ton of hours on a screen while at home, is that so bad they gonna have to not be a screen while on school breaks?
