France bans smartphones from schools

Here in India we're not allowed to bring phones to school up until senior year

I'm French and it was definitely forbidden a few years ago when I was in middle school. Let's not even talk about primary school, I can't see why children that age would have a cellphone. It was authorized in high school though, you have more freedom there and you act more responsible.

If you're a teacher this is always a good thing. Students being on their phone the whole time is so disrespectful.

Cellphones aren’t needed but they don’t need to be banned either. You’re uplifting one extreme while being on the other… 

And intro-what campaign? You and others are definitely pushing an extroversion campaign, if anything. From group projects to forcing people to talk to each other. You should let people do what they want on break, and this solution isn’t it. 

Plus what’s this simple minded stuff? We’re talking about highschoolers, let’s get practical please. You think everyday life in high school is gonna be good for you if you go telling your peers they’re dumb for having popular kids/cliques and stuff?

They are, but they don’t care, bc it’s all about one upping each other unfortunately. Your attitude would get you hated by everyone at school, and definitely won’t spark a radical change in society when that system is literally everywhere… then how smoothly are those group projects going to go? Let’s not act like the social climate isn’t a huge factor here.

Part of what you learn in school is how to socialise with people, communicate with people and make friends. There are kids that have harder times then others doing that, there are kids who get bullied. The answer to that isn't allow them smartphones to ignore their problems and hide away - that's not a healthy coping mechanism. 

Thank god my school banned the use of phones in class or during lunch when I was in school otherwise I would have made 0 friends. I would have retreated to my phone where it was safer for me. 

I've been in multiple work places where I can't use my phone... Kids can live without it, we've all had to. At my school you could bring your phone you just didn't use it at school. You left it in your bag or your pocket on silent and you didn't take it out until the end of the day to contact your parents or whatever. Obviously there where times when people broke the rules, including me, but it wasn't regular. It was a good policy. 

My little cousin is using an ipad in school which is a great way to incorporate technology into the classroom, he gets to play educational games that he likes and he also gets to learn about how to work the technology. It's adapting to change, it's taking advantage of technological progress but it's also practical.

On the One hand, I Think you can use smartphones effectively in Class like having the students look up vocabulary, Conducting research or playing Games like kahoot, although you might run the Risk of your students abusing the fact that they are allowed to use them. I don't know for your classes but when I was in HS, every time a teacher was letting everybody "use a cellphone but only to look up things related to the lesson" it was always 20% work and 80% Youtube/Facebook/Insta and so lmao.

I see nothing that can't be clear with a good explanation/graphic etc. Apps are not needed in a classroom more than the old stuffs imo.

Yeah cause we had many useful changes since the 1800s. Here we only talk about one specific change that would be preserved but not applied the same way. Nobody's going back in time lol, it's just adjustment of an usage of one technology.

If being progressive means you always have to keep a change that was proven to bring problems, then it being progressist is being a bigot.
