Suspiria 10,683
Lol I can't at everyone in this thread bragging about how diverse and sophisticated their music taste is I think the obvious answer is that, the era as a whole was just different than what we had come to expect - and what made us fans on the first place. For me personally, it lacked concept and effort... nothing interesting or imaginative was said on the album, save for in Angel Down and arguably Hey Girl. The era had no extremes - it was neither completely toned down or over the top, just a kind of messy in-between. If she was going to go with this "acoustic, singer-singwriter, stripped back, personal, family girl" thing she should've gone all the way. Like what is Dancin' In Circles doing on a soft-indie rock/country tinged album about her dead aunt? For me the saving grace was Mark Ronson and Bloodpop. The production was great, and is really the only reason I listen to the album (well Gaga's voice too, but that's always great). I think the songwriting is overall pretty weak (where are the choruses for half the songs?), and doesn't inspire me or hype me up at all. It's just okay - I'm happy to see the back of this era. Sunny 12,736
Honestly, the album is good, it has some of her best songs, while the others (to me) aren't special. To me the main problem is that it has no replay value. I remember replaying DIC or JAD for about a day, but after then I would just forget. Other albums when they came out, I would play almost daily. To me, the era wasn't interesting. It's not that it was different, but after 3 years of no solo release, I expected more. I like dancin', and ponies.... Battle 4 Ur Life 6,721
because literally it's nothing fans expected. like, the opposite of it. but it isn't by any means bad. I love Joanne. “Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”
ModernEcstasy 9,088
This Fanbase hated “ARTPOP” during it’s run. Now it’s a fan favourite. “Joanne” is my least favourite album of hers. But I don’t hate it. I’m just not keen on the style of music. (There are some Gems on there. I absolutely adore “Diamond Heart”)
ShayCristoforo 10,607
It had to grow on people. Although she does experiment with different sounds, when Perfect Illusion came out it was VERY different. When I first heard it, I hated it. And I still think it pales in comparison to her other bangers. I love Joanne now but it was and still is polarizing. Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time. REALITY 77,362
I personally love Joanne. It's probably my favorite Gaga album, but it's pretty simple to understand why people didn't like it. It was vastly different than anything else she's done before, and in hindsight, I guess we all should have expected it. After C2C and after taking a break from the 'electronic/dance pop music' we were used to seeing with Gaga, it'd make sense for her to release a more stripped back album. Also, people complain that it's "country" when it's literally not. I honestly don't understand, and never will understand why people are so persistent in calling it a country album. Joanne is not country. It's very clearly a pop album with all different kinds of influences. There's funk, folk, rock, country, etc., etc. The only country song on Joanne is Sinner's Prayer. A-YO is more country-pop with funk and Million Reasons could just as easily be a pop ballad, but with a country twang in her accent. Finally, people need to learn that Gaga's an evolving artist. I've said it numerous times, but if you can't get over the fact that she's going to change up her style then there's no point in being a fan of hers. When you're a Little Monster you're in it for the ride. You can't expect her to just keep going back to her old stuff because she's not. She even said in an interview that fans need to let go of previous eras and to stop comparing them to whatever current era she's in. Her eras are all distinct and definite, and some of y'all need to learn to deal with that. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔲𝔰𝔦𝔠'𝔰 𝔤𝔬𝔫𝔫𝔞 𝔟𝔯𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔪𝔢 𝔟𝔞𝔠𝔨 𝔣𝔯𝔬𝔪 𝔡𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥
