With some casual homophobia thrown in and WLW pandering. She was a product from the start... love that shady AF interview of that era, when Gaga was like "...I don't think she has kissed another girl "... Gaga been knew, she saw ha for what she was. No, she is not #CANCELLED or whatever the ****, I get that it was a while ago, but that doesn't make it above critique. I was 16 in 2008 and in High School (yes I am old and bitter, stfu), and people threw around gay as a synonym for lame/shitty all the time and it was horrible. I was deep in the closet and things like that just made it seem impossible to ever fathom coming out. Hearing it used so casually in a song by a popular singer at the time just reinforced all of that, and it was shitty. So yes, I can be pissed off about it, because seriously what the **** is that song? Not to mention what it would have been like for lesbian and bi women when "I Kissed a Girl" came out... would have been even worse. But, um yeah, work LGBT Human Rights award winner... It's why Gaga was such a breathe of fresh air at the time and why I fell in love with her, she had conviction, she wasn't going to sing a song like that just because someone wrote it for her and it seemed like a cute gag. Gaga has surely done problematic things too and she isn't above critique either, but at least you know she is making her own mistakes, and it's real. Please tell me exactly what is being satirised here, or preferably, learn what satire actually means. Secondly, not every single problematic issue needs to be compared to something Gaga has done too that was problematic. It's such a false equivalence and just distracts from the entire point. Since we're going there though, I will only say that at least G***y (the song) is not used in a disparaging way. I am not a Romani person so I can't speak to its offence, but I do know that I honestly wouldn't have a problem with "Ur So Gay" if it wasn't inherently derogatory in all of its lyrics and message. It's the not the stereotyping that bothers me, I give a lot slack to well-meaning if misinformed stereotyping. If she was singing about how she wishes her boyfriend was ~More Gay~ because then he'd go shopping with her, or be more sensitive, or whatever, yes that would be ignorant as **** and so naive. But it's heart would be in the right place at least, so I honestly wouldn't have a big problem with it. It's the fact that she's saying "you have all these bad qualities about being gay and you ain't even gay", it's insulting. I guess that it's trying to be cute, but it totally missed the mark and that kind of carelessness deserves to be shat on. G***y is also ignorant to use in a song, but Gaga is not outright trashing the Romani people lol, she is being naive. Deserves critique too but not in the same ballpark. Its commentary on gender, masculinity, etc is super relevant to all of the societal discussion we're having these days. I find the song to also be commenting on the disingenuous behavior of said masculinities, genders, etc. I Kissed a Girl kind of does the same commentary, too!
