Israeli singer Netta won this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. Now the Universal Music Group accused the songwriters of the winning song "Toy" of plagiarizing from the 2003 hit "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes.

Keshet TV reported that Doron Medalie and Stav Beger, composers of "Toy", received a letter two weeks ago from Universal claiming copyright infringement, due to apparent similarity between the two songs.

Netta's manager responded: “No legal claim was received, only a preliminary clarification letter on the matter.”

Eurovision rules state clearly that the winning song must be original. If it turns out that Medalie and Beger plagiarized the song, Netta could be disqualified and next year’s contest will not be held in Israel.

What do you think? Are those claims valid? Here are the two songs in question:

So now we can sue for a few similar chords??

Wait I'm off to sue the entire music industry for using the same 4.

Wow just for two similar notes that are on many oriental songs for thousand years. Amazing!

Not even notes, just 1 sec. melody in different scale.

they really don't want to do the Eurovision in Israel, do they?

anyhow, i don't hear it. but Eurovision is crazy political, so this might lead to somewhere for someone up top.
