It doesn't matter how music was broadcast and sold. There were still widely popular songs that people would've enjoyed at the time, but no one remembers now. I'm pretty sure my great-great-grandmother was popping her puss to the Pineapple Rag.

well yeah, the title is just to be cute, they're not saying its going to carry on within a whoe century. but tea is that popular music, and especially popular global music did not start until the 30's and 40's when songs were measured on charts, sold and pressed more regularly.
