Sneaky Oliver 22,177
Do you think US/World GP would be here for a mainstream drag queen superstar? Some of you may know Pablo Vittar, she's a brazilian singer and drag queen and she's one of the country's top artists; Her songs "K.O" and "Corpo Sensual" (Sexy Body in english) have 310mi and 242mi views on YT respectively and she has 7 millions instagram followers. She even appears on US Billboard website, Vogue Portugal and has a song with Major Lazer and Charli XCX. Last night RuPauls Drag Race crowned the 10th winner but despite the HUGE and international hype of the show, no one of the queens could achieve these numbers or "level of fame". Sasha Velour (last years winner) has 1 million Instagram followers. And not even RuPaul's music comes close to Pablo's Youtube numbers. Do you think the GP will ever enjoy a drag queen as a huge mainstream pop act? Spoiler I know numbers can't define someone's career or quality but it helps to measure the impact on the general public! Sorry for my english! OBEY 57,109
Unfortunately, toxic masculinity won't let a Drag Queen "happen"
River 116,823
Depends on the country actually.. I can really see it happening in France for example, when we went to out local gay bar in Nice, when we lived there, there were many straight guys and even families with kids.. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
ImNoAngel 186
Yes, why not? There’s more support for the LGBT and drag queens nowadays than the 90’s when Rupaul managed to go mainstream.
Thomas P 18,479
Unfortunately no. Drag queens are in a weird area where they are now being appreciated as artists but nothing more. Masculinity is still a big problem in society, and men just can’t seem to get into a man in a wig. I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill. Pablo makes pop music like any other artist i mean theres no special gay-friendly approach and some men even find her attractive. Its more like a female artist than a drag/queer artist
Killa 17,476
Deliver good music or bops that people might care but when you are entering gp field. Youre compromising. Can a drag make a general message? Doesnt that lose the potential of it? Queer and mainstream hardly go together Gp are a bunch of fools tbh and gp is male dominant and machist. They might "accept" but best outcome will be some kind of joke about the artist and how they respect choices or joke about feeling weird to be attracted Sorry not here for it But deliver a world wide smash with actual meaning not just shoved in ur face well promoted pop and yeah ofc here 4 it
RAMROD 109,563
Maybe in next 5-10 years if these keep on growing. As for now, majority of people still takes drag performance as niche entertainment. It kinda happened before but drags were just Miley backup dancers. Aquaria seems like a perfect fit for this kind of gig
Knife 6,882
I don’t agree that drag queens need to wait for the world to be more open-minded in order to be accepted (and succeed) in mainstream culture. I mean..it would be an uphill battle, but being a trailblazer is never an easy thing to do. As was mentioned above, RuPaul made it happen in the 90’s, so anything’s possible with the right high heels, hair, and attitude.
