The cinematography and production was amazing but just like the critiques for ARTPOP(which I disagree with) it’s trying to hide that it doesnt have much to say See, I just don't understand this criticism. Comments with spoiler: Spoiler I felt the movie was more about what happens to a family after the loss of a loved one. That's the real horror of the movie, particularly considering how graphic/shocking Charlie's death was. The fallout within the family thereafter and the torment Annie experiences, both supernatural and internal, I felt perfectly portrayed the grief a family unit feels after a member dies. If someone has never lost a loved one in your immediate family, maybe this movie wasn't quite as relatable. However, if you have, the destruction and the hole that's left by the lost one after their death is portrayed very realistically in Hereditary. The scarier demons in this movie were Annie's, not the coven's, and that's why I liked it so much – in contrast to contemporary films like The Conjuring series, It, Paranormal Activity, the antagonist is not immediately apparent and the type of horror utilized isn't jump scares or gore, but dread and grief. I personally felt Annie's grief, and that was much more horrifying to me than Pennywise or Annabelle. Hereditary, like It Follows or The Babadook, contributes more to the genre than just bells and whistles. In my opinion.

Mikey Monster 1,561
I loved it!!! I think it’s one of those horror movies that are more situational. Just because it didn’t have a ton of jump scares doesn’t make it bad. I feel like if u believe that demonic possession exists I would think that that’s how it would be like in real life and to picture yourself in that situation is absolutely terrifying! It’s like looking at the bigger picture of the film and really appreciating the approach ❤️❤️❤️ Plus the acting was superb! Love Toni Collette she never disappoints she’s amazing! And their son was amazing too! He’s so damn cute!!!😂❤️😜 Mikey McCampbell
TropicOfCANCER 6,292
I’m bored of people dismissing these kinds of horror movies. There’s definitely different types of horror movies that are widely rooted in tone/atmoshere and less in jump scares and it’s disappointing when people write off these types of horror movies. While I wouldn’t say I LOVED hereditary, it definitely freaked me out a lot, and was very well made.
TropicOfCANCER 6,292
Oh also, I was confused as to why there weren’t any legal repercussions for the son for what happened with the daughter?

androiduser 7,438
the movie is BRILLIANT and it doesn't follow the usual horror formula, so naturally it's a disappointment to the people who expect a typical horror movie.

I guess they wanted to focus on the main story, and not have any distractions, but they could have at least mentioned that the police is aware of what happened.
