It is very split between majority, concurring Beverley and the 2 others dissenting. It is very interesting, from a Charter of Rights and Freedoms perspective but also from a pure admin law perspective. I will read it soon too love the supreme court judgments
geopang 4,831
Religion is toxic. No advanced and progressive country should put outdated and nonsensical beliefs above people’s rights and protections, especially if they’re a historically targeted minority. It's much easier said than done because you'll always have orthodox or really strict people saying "WE SHOULD HAVE TRADITION! NOTHING SHOULD CHANGE!", but the reality is that some things do need to change. I grew up Catholic, and even though I got my First Communion, Baptism, etc., I realistically am more of an Agnostic person. I don't think that the religion itself is the bad thing, but people refusing to evolve with the times. I mean, there are also some verses in the Bible that condone slavery. It also wasn't too long ago that interracial marriage was seen as something "sinful." I mean, if ppl evolve with the times tho, what's the point that of even having religious beliefs at all period? Might as well not have a religion then if ur just gonna change the beliefs

I think very few if any religions teach to kill gays I think it's extremist individuals that make that interpretation for themselves (for example Muslims don't tell u to kill them but ISIS decided to teach that anyway)

And yet both are still viewed as contemporary interpretations of their own faith. I think for religion to be able to peacefully coexist in modern times, certain aspects have to be modified at least in practice. Like I said, people once believed (not too long ago)—and some still believe, though not too many—that interracial marriage was sinful. You can evolve your beliefs into something more loving and compassionate without having to completely disregard them. I'm not saying to change your fundamental beliefs in something, what I'm saying is that people should learn to be more accepting and compassionate since that's what religion should call for in the first place. I come from a apostolic christian family and they would never want to do harm to anyone. In fact some people in my family have lots of friends who are gay, but they just don't agree with the lifestyle that's all. everyone tries to make it seem that Christians are just evil people but it's simply not true. I'm gay and my family has never said anything hurtful or ignorant to me.

Yeah I don't get where that even came from, the Bible never says to my knowledge that interracial is bad My Racist grandma doesn't wanna come to my wedding cuz my fiance is black. That old Portuguese generation I swear. In her case it's not religion tho cuz her religion actually teaches that all backgrounds should be accepted but someone's clearly not listening. First of all, I'm sorry to hear that your grandmother doesn't want to come to your wedding. A family should always be supportive of each other no matter what I agree though that even though the scriptures or the sacred texts of a religion don't explicitly say something, people take it to another extreme. Notice that I said "people." I frankly don't like it when people call out religion for being "the worst thing on the planet," when in fact it's extremists. I know plenty of religious people too, and they're wonderful, and they know I'm gay and they don't have a problem with me whatsoever. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔱𝔬𝔯𝔢 𝔞𝔴𝔞𝔶 𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔪𝔞𝔰𝔨 𝔞𝔫𝔡...𝔦𝔱𝔰 𝔣𝔞𝔠𝔢 𝔴𝔞𝔰 𝔪𝔦𝔫𝔢.
