shame 25,360
I'm so happy and proud of Gaga. This kind of project is probably something she wanted to do for the longest time, before she took on the Gaga persona we know today. She always said she wanted to become an actress from a young age and even went to NYU to study method-acting but had a hard time landing roles because she was so awkward in auditions. I know she got to do AHS and other minor roles but I think a feature film like ASIB really tells the story of her life and will be something bigger that will resonate with many people who doubted her before. She also gets to sing in it and show off her vocal ability. The role of Ally is just perfect for her. The line in the trailer where she said people always told her they liked the way she sounded but didn't like the way she looked felt like it hit close to home. I remember hearing in 5F2 how producers wanted her to act a certain way but she always wanted to be her own kind of sexy to still feel like she was in control. And that song "Hollywood" she wrote before the fame about the way the entertainment industry made her perceive herself and about the fierce dream she had to make it in Hollywood. "Each model and celebrity Changes how I look at me Oh don't tell me, don't tell me I'll never be A superstar 'cause I know I could look Like a girl in Hollywood" I realized that we may think Gaga's perfectly happy because she's accomplished so much in her career, winning Grammys and selling albums but now I can finally imagine that little part of her, Stefani, that was so young and naive, who once dreamed of being a Hollywood starlet, can now finally say "I've made it." So yeah, the trailer's got me in such an emotional mess. I probably watched the ASIB trailer like 20 times today. As a huge movie fan this is so surreal to imagine seeing Gaga in a leading role in theatres in less than 4 months. I can't wait angels forever, forever angels
Matangi 3,050
tea is tea. acting has always seemed to be one of gaga's greatest passions, and this role is massively significant to her creatively. Excited to see it.

Exactly what I thought. I think that line was purposely written into the movie by Gaga. The story has to stay the same but not the dialogue and I’m sure there will be a lot more personal nods to Gaga’s life in the movie.

I vaguely know the story but I dare say the plot even corresponds to Gaga's career beginnings. Isn't it about a small-town aspiring singer (Stefani) struggling to make it in the industry and then being discovered by a major artist who propels her to stardom only for his own career to fall (Akon)? angels forever, forever angels

Well, first of all, she's from New York so she comes from a big city of big opportunities. And second, it's been known that Akon took the credit from Vincent Herbert, who was the actual guy who discovered Gaga. But in a way, it's a similar story. A girl that starts playing in bars and clubs, then is discovered and gets signed to a record label. The typical music industry story

Vitleysingur 13,790
I always have the impression that ASIB is a semi biopic of Gaga. Dreams of you and me are in the dirt.

It definitely is or she would’ve dressed as a character, not Stefani and how she looked when trying to make it big in NYC. Wendy discovered her at one of Stefani’s shows and put her in touch with Fusari, who was still riding the wave of his Bootylicious Destiny’s Child hit. Maybe he helped get her signed to Def Jam and then Vincent/Akon got her in the door at Interscope. I think Vincent as her manager was supportive of Stefani turning into Gaga, and all the weird/craziness of that artistic direction. Akon too but to a lesser extent since he wasn’t really involved.
