If this isn't a viewership gimmick I don't know what is

I don't know why Fox even bothers to have two singing competitions considering Idol is the only show that has ever had winners sustain their popularity, and unless I'm mistaken only two winners have had successful careers (Kelly and Carrie)

God almighty that video is painful, but aside from most of the lyrics this song isn't bad

If streaming were a thing in 2011, Friday would've been a #1 hit for her. :air:

You're probably right.

I hope she does well.

It feels like Rebecca Black and Friday just helped to popularize a disgusting trend of herds of men viciously and misogynistically attacking women on the internet whenever they feel threatened or don't like their material and it has always rubbed me the wrong way. She has persisted in spite of that however, and I applaud her and hope she does well in this, though if she is not actually good enough to be on the show, they better not milk her infamy for views... not that they are already doing that or anything :rip: I just hope its not more false hope for her, she's had enough :air: And she's not an amazing vocalist so if they immediately love her I call sus :rip:

Spoiler

Real Talk Though: All these shows that get record labels for artists have not made successful artists in like, years :rip: When's the last time an American Idol winner, The Voice winner, etc. has been charting on the Top 100 - and if so, more than once or twice? Their first album hasn't been critically panned and commercially a flop, unoriginal, with very little artist contribution/interaction other than vocals, etc.

It is just people who have the talent to be "professional" singers but maybe not the people skills, originality, social skills, or more shallowly - the look, and even then perhaps not the drive, and definitely not the support from public, media, radio, record label, etc. to become commercially and critically successful for a decent amount of time.

These shows are to keep the judges names in the public and to entertain, they don't seem that interested in making stars. Arguably the most successful person to have won the Voice in all of its ridiculous seasons is Melanie Martinez, and she didn't even win and was never the most skilled vocalist... she capitalized on her originality and versatility + social media following to do it, and she has toured, become a decently known artist, released a pretty successful record for a debut from a nobody and with a concept album no doubt, etc... and all of her work is professionally mixed, mastered, songs written by her... No one that wins a show like this is going to have that career trajectory she has made for herself without putting in a hell of a lot more work than it is to probably even win this show itself :air:
