I loved In My Blood, Youth, and Lost in Japan, but damn if that album doesn't sound exactly like a Mayer album, but watered down. It was disappointing. Two of the (was it 4?) singles were about something other than a girl and that's what I thought the album would lean more towards. It didn't, though, which is really sad considering this was his "most vulnerable album." I like Shawn for obvious reasons, but this album was a serious letdown to me. Most of the album is just about a girl he broke up with or had a fling with

All of his past singles have been very /r/niceguys to me. :huntyga: I thought he'd move on from that with this album

This happens with all artists, Gaga included, it's called sampling.

I don't think Shawn bought rights to all these "samples" though lol I mean I hope you know that's what sampling is..

Sampling everything current. Its wiser to sample older stuff. I mean how many hooks can one get from Bad Liar? :selena:

Exactly!  The same people are behind the same music that sounds the same. It's all in the same deep pocket.

Not to forget that Lost in Japan sounds exactly like Justin Timberlake and In My Blood like Kings of Leon.

All the songs sounds the same these days because they are all relying on the same trendy sound..

same thing happened to Camila. Most of her songs sounded like other songs.

Havana and Same Old Love anyone?

But in the end they are different songs, it's just they are probably running out of ideas for songs and the artists working on them can't think of anything fresh.

I wasn't blaming him, I included his team. But I admit I didn't know those others wrote his songs for this album as well. Still weird that they used very similar beats/melodies :duck:

well shawn himself admitted that this album was heavily influenced by the music he listened to the most the past 2 years hence why some songs might remind you of other songs :lana:

Don't need to try coming for me I said that I like Shawn and his music :emma:, but there's being influenced by music and recycling the same song again and calling it different. Even if they were written by the same people I don't see why a song needs to sound exactly the same. :gaysia:
