I think the story is legit and Gaga talked about it but that may not be the original facebook group

The story is real.

A girl who went to college with her made a post about Gaga and the FB group in 2016:

 

The post is very interesting cause she didn't know who Stefani was when she found the FB group by accident and years later when Gaga was starting to gain WW popularity she realized she was that girl from the FB group, every Gaga fan should read this story.
