I was very afraid of Glenn Close as she never won an Oscar, and she's an icon that is being left unawarded (+ she's getting old) so I was afraid the Academy was feeling forced to give to her

But, I wanted to educate myself a little

Her movie almost came out a month ago and has grossed less than 2 M $ :ohwell:

receipts https://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=thewife.htm

Maybe she's leading the polls cause she the only one having her movie out YET

So, she might not be that big of threat if we're already tying her when ASIB isn't even out yet

Oscars uncancelled :vegas::vegas::vegas::vegas::vegas::vegas::vegas:

About zipline scene from ASIB's Trailer 1: "This scene didn't make the cut I saw at TIFF"

If it is true... :messga:

if they cut it, they might release a director's cut on dvd or something :messga:

A little clarification on that "ticket bundle" (from P&J forum):

So, October 5th download email, one album download per transaction, which isn’t too surprising per the guidelines of this counting towards sales.

$4 million for a movie like that is not uncommon and may even be GOOD depending on what its budget is. All studios care about is making their money back and hopefully making a profit. And even if the movie is not wildly popular, her performance seems to be amongst the people who matter most when it comes to the Oscars.

I just checked the nominees for Best Actress last year

We have 4 out of 5 films that grossed more than 150M WW
And Lady Bird which still has grossed 80M WW

Yes the box office numbers are not to be checked for Oscars but 4M still appears wayyy too low to be considered

The Wife has just been released for 4 weeks now, and it’s gaining $500k each week. I’m pretty sure the numbers will turn out okay in the long run, especially when Still Alice did pretty much the same and Julianne Moore still won in the end.

Marion Cotillard was nominated in 2014 for "Two Days, One Night" which made $9 million total.

Isabelle Huppert was nominated in 2016 for "Elle," which made $12 million total.

"Winter's Bone," for which Jennifer Lawrence got her first nomination, made a total of $16 million.

Natalie Portman was nominated for "Jackie," which made $25 million. Yeah, that's more than 4 million, but still not much for a Natalie Portman movie with that much hype.

And a lot of those movies likely made most of their money after Oscar nominations were announced or after the ceremony themselves.

They all made more than their budgets, I believe, and were acclaimed performances with hype, and "The Wife" is in a similar situation.
