I think all the first 7 songs on the album had some potential as singles but they all were very risky since none of them sounded like anything charting at the time or something like gaga had done before. They certainly needed a big push from gaga  and her team and not a drop and leave tactic they went with for PI

Well, if they didn't push MR for like 10 years, they would have time for AYO as a 2nd single and then MR as a 3rd single during Superbowl with a video released shortly after instead of the John Wayne video

I'm not scared for ASIB soundtrack in charts, but for LG6...  I don't know exactly what to expect of her next solo album

I get what you mean. I think they chose PI as lead because it sounded the most like her old material (not much but still relatively the most similar). However, Gaga has switched singles  since, what, BTW? Hair was initially a promo that was pushed as an official single, and TEOG was also switched with MTN? Venus and DWUW.

Wasn't beautiful dirty rich supposed to be the 2nd single of the fame? I think she has been messy with singles since the start .

From what I know about all her singles is that Boys Boys Boys was supposed to be 5th single of the fame but scraped since TFM was already done. Dance in the dark was supposed to be the 3rd single of tfm but gaga pushed for alejandro. MTN started as the lead single of btw but they changed it before we even know about the album. TEOG was only a promo single but since it debuted #3 they made it a official single. Then the Venus/DWUW and A-Yo/MR mess

The only way to avoid the 2nd single mess is to not do multiple promo singles.

Release the lead. Then if they want release the second single right before the album drops. No multiple instant grat tracks. Thankfully instant grat is mostly dead. Only Ariana is doing it right now I think

Well you all are debating about the lack of promotion for PI on Spotify but the real problem from Interscope is why they  agreed to release PI as a lead single 

why they thought that PI will be a good choice for a lead 

and furthermore it doesnt represent at all the album

I agree. No songs sound like a hit on this album.

Honestly, no track was really set for the lead. Yeah, Million Reasons could have been, because it sets the whole tone of the album; however, everyone would have been so angry. Gaga releasing a country-tinged ballad as the lead single would have pissed off all the fans. The GP might have digested it easier than Perfect Illusion, but even that song was better received by us on here during their respective releases. I mean, we all love Million Reasons now, because it's her biggest hit since Applause/Do What U Want.

Also, as much as I would love Dancin' in Circles to be the lead, I feel it would just be weird to release a lead single about masturbating on an album dedicated to your dead aunt. But, I always think of this situation. I kinda visualize Joanne to have gone like this (under a different album name of course):

Single 1: Dancin in Circles - Released mid August 2016 - this end-of-summer tropical-infused-with-reggeton dance track is the most "in" thing right now. Jumping on the instant success of tracks like Cheap Thrills and One Dance, Dancin in Circles is definitely projected to pop high onto the charts, and continue the wave of this genre.

Single 2: A-YO - Released sometime in October 2016 - delving down into the roots of her latest album, Gaga snarles at the haters with a departure from her typical kind of dance/pop. Unlike anything that any popular artist is doing right now, Gaga is sure to win this time with 'A-YO'.

After this, I don't care. I'm sure Million Reasons would still do alright if it was released as a single in January 2017 and still performed at the Superbowl. It might even have done better this way, as radios would have just began picking it up, and there would probably already be some sort of payola program in place on streaming services.
