i didn't say bad vocals tho, it's just way too depressing for me to enjoy after nearly all of ARTPOP

I think it was a great choice to juxtapose one extremely down and depressing ballad amidst of all the euphoria. It's like a metaphor to Gaga's career/life leading up to that point. Everyone loved her for being an upbeat breath of fresh air, fans only wanted her to go faster and up and beyond, but even before everything came crashing down, she was clinically depressed and struggled with anxiety disorders. And the harder you party, the harder it hits you that you feel empty.
