But I guess it’s part of the game. I’m actually nice.

It's imbedded within the culture. It almost seems as redundant as footballers shouldn't tackle each other on the field... It's part of the game. I'll also point out that it's not something exclusive to rap... "Flyting"(a ritualistic, poetic insult exchange) has been found in Ancient Viking, Japanese, Inuit, Arabian and even Scottish cultures. I'm not saying it can't get to the point of toxicity, or can't cross lines, but it just seems like too much of a generalisation to label all rap feuds that. Kendrick and Drake have been shooting each other subliminals for years, not because they actually hate each other, it's just a challenge and part of the game. It's not personal, it's just rap. But rap battles can be really dangerous. Gucci Mane vs Young Jeezy battle ended up with someone from Jeezy's camp getting murdered because of this. Also, who can forget about Tupac vs Biggie? I’m actually nice.

Of course which is why I mentioned "I'm not saying it can't get to the point of toxicity, or can't cross lines". I mean you don't even need to look past legends Biggie and Pac to see how toxic and dangerous rap battles can be. My point was never "Rap battles can't be taken too far" just that rap battles are a part of hip-hop and can't be generalised as totally toxic. Usually all Drake has had to do was shrug off criticism, but this has forced him to PR mode. Even Drake saying "I know everyone is enjoying the circus" is him essentially aknowledging, but trying to downplay, that Pusha's track has had impact and that he is the butt of everything this time around Not saying Drake's career is over, but he has definitely lost this battle and he has taken a hit from this one. It could also end up hurting his album roll out and hurting his reputation a little. 6 It will never hurt his album. Drake is streaming god on Spotify for several years, and no one outside America even heard of this 'Pusha' guy ever. Besides, the black community being offended by something is mostly just in America because of your strangely divided society.

Besides, the black community being offended by something is mostly just in America because of your strangely divided society. Like I said, it won't hurt him that much, but it will a little. He'll pull big numbers with his album, he already has the hits behind it. The problem is that it hurts his reputation - top 2 is considered Kendrick/Drake but Drake has been taking some hits lately and doesn't seem as untouchable as he did before. The effects might not be immediate, but they will be more obvious over time. Within the Urban community, which is an important market for him, he is being ridiculed right now... Not just by fans but by influential radio hosts and media personalities. People hardly knew about "Remy Ma" outside the U.S but she did some damage to Nicki's reputation.
