I'm not trying to defend European colonialism, just illustrating that human history is a bloody mess all the way back and that we all need to move forward from that.

It’s the implication behind the word “tame” that’s the supremacist language. It implies that Native Americans are ignorant savages and white people are the paradigm to strive for and that their presence in America “saved” the country. Essentially, he literally thinks that colonial culture is “superior” to Native which is, you guessed it, supremacy. So that’s the issue lol

And while I would agree that technology doesnt necessarily correlate to overall human improvement and happiness, it is rather ironic that this conversation is being argued courtesy of largely American invented technology that is now everyday life for billions.  But carry on

It’s not out of context. He praised the US for defeating Britain and then ‘taming’ the continent. This is from the man who loves Andrew Jackson, who’s legacy is removing Natives from their lands.

What europeans did to native americans is definitely one of the biggest injustices and genocides that happened, litteraly civilizations have been swiped away for natural resources. its really saddening how it isnt portrayed as such in most history books. this historical event definitely shouldnt be praised by anybody, imo the subject should be treated the same way we treat other similar subjects like slavery, and other historical genocides.
