If it wasn't for colonization North America would be technologically poor continent.But ofc colonization has its flaws and is horrible because it killed so many people.Overall if by tame he means technologically improve the continent and make it modern civilized continent then he's right.They tamed it. Literally no one asked the white people to 'tame' anyone. They did it for their own selfish motives of exploiting the natural resources of America, Asia and Africa. Technological improvement does not mean happiness. I'm from India and we were way better as a country before the white people tried to 'tame' us. That's not entirely true. The Inca and Aztec ppl were pretty technologically advanced before European invasion and colonization of South America. God knows where they'd be by now. Of course having contact with Europe and the other continents would of been a massive benefit to them and could of helped them develop a lot quicker with in different aspects but it didnt need to come at the cost of literally millions of Native Americans all across both Americas (North and South). Humans are a tribal species and war has set the boundaries everywhere and almost all societies practiced slavery of vanquished foes at one point. Human history worldwide is full of crappy treatment of our fellow man. We all have been fighting to improve so let's not pretend the US is the sole worst offender. Trump is an idiot but blowing his comments that far out of context as the title implies is just as big of a reason why we have issues cooperating to find common ground. Society is slowly learning and improving. Trump is not helping by pitting people against each other, but neither is going extreme the other way. Tribalism is bad, including modern versions.
