I'm a huge fan of south park and have seen pretty much every episode. But I always avoided talking about it in front of gay people because I always thought they find the topic offensive (with Mr hat and all:toofunny:) but I've recently discoverd that in the past south park has been a huge defender of gay rights and has said a lot about the subject. I can't really find any specific episodes. So how has south park defended gay rights and what has it said about them??

They made a hole episode how being transgender is unnatural. It's called Mr. Garrisons New Vagina. In this episode they compared being transgender with a human wanting to be a dolphin. I don't think they're huge gay rights advocates :oprah:

I know. That's part of my point. I myself don't get it.

I mean, everybody is going to find something offensive, or crude, or out of place. However, South Park has helped communities by bringing their plight to a larger stage for all to see. Rather than keep things ‘hush hush’ they bring things out into the open with their unique brand of comedy. They cut open some fresh wounds, but most of the world doesn’t know those wounds at all. Idk, that’s how I see it.

Lol I'm pretty sure Trey Parker and Matt Stone are proponents of gay rights. Just like all of the characters, the gay ones are satirical. They also have depth of emotions and are usually represented in a positive light.

South Park typically parodies the white wing point of view by animating it. (I.e. Mr. Garrison and the Dolphin comparison)

They go so far out of their way to make DAMN sure that they ridicule bigots.

But keep in mind the format of the show rarely allows for a heartfelt positive message so all they can do really is ridicule.

I also think in its own way that having gay characters that just are gay but might be evil or whatever is a type of equality.

We don't get gay villains because typically they are either a protagonist an extra or just a person in an episode to make the show look inclusive.

South Park unapologetically includes everyone even if it's satirical it includes everyone no one is off limits and no one is not represented.

That's a nice analogy

River

The last thing is to get offended by South Park.. it's a pure dark humor satiric, so they laugh about everything and everyone, but also put a mirror on society in many episodes.

You really need to have a certain personality to watch and understand this show, the young of these days would be offended by it after the first 1 minute..:laughga:

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
