I'm 99% sure that my mom googled "what is a gay" the day I came out, so this hits close to home

I still don't understand the difference tbh :awkney:

It's said the map of the world is on you. The moon gravitates around you. The seasons escape you.

Bisexual means you are attracted to two genders (usually cis male and cis female) pansexual means you find attraction in all forms of gender. More of a "Hearts not parts" kind of thing if that makes sense.

Above is correct; I agree it's a bit odd but the difference only lies between the attraction to non-binary and intersex people.  I do actually believe that increasingly bisexual people will come out as 'pansexual' after realising what it is because I find it somewhat hard to believe that there are that many people who are attracted to both males and females but not anything else... I guess we'll see!

This is not always the case. It's simpler to explain it like this:

Bisexual = Attraction to more than one gender or alternatively same and another gender/genders

Pansexual = Attraction to all genders or alternatively attraction regardless of gender

Bisexuals don't always exclusively desire cis males and females (because trans males and females are equally that) and may use the term in a less strict sense. Some people feel pansexual, acknowledge this, but still use the term bisexual because it's more understood and a sister identity after all. Which is fine, up to the individual! They are seperate--but related--sexualities though.

The terms mean different things to different people, so a bisexual may still be just as attracted to non-binary and intersex people  And "hearts not parts" sounds like an easy way of explaining it, but someone who is not attracted to all genders may also love "hearts not parts" and not "parts not hearts" as the analogy implies. I generally avoid the phrase is all

I hope all the information in this thread is helpful @The Louvre  :kara:

This term is actually what made me not want to lable my sexuality anymore. Because I used to consider myself bi-sexual, but when I read the discription of pansexual it sounds the same to me, I never thought about there being just two genders. So I guess that makes me pansexual. Personally I really don't like the need to label everyone, what's the point?

Everyone's orientation is so unique and also so ever-changing that there is hardly any use to labeling everyone, it would be madness. :music:

I labeled myself as bisexual but a few months ago, I had the idea that maybe i'm pansexual due to me finding attraction in all forms of peoples regardless of gender. You would be so surprised when you think you know your "type" and then here comes along somebody you had no idea you would be attracted to. I still sometimes say i'm bi for some people who are more familiar with that term but sometimes I still don't exactly know when it is appropriate to refer to pansexuality because I don't want to offend anyone.

Sexuality doesn't have to do with gender identity tho, it's about which sex you're attracted to :awkney:

Gender is too socially constructed imo to determine your sexual prefference...
