UK Home Minister Resigns

BREAKING: Amber Rudd, the UK’s Minister for the Home Office has just resigned from her position in the Cabinet.

 

Rudd has been facing an extreme amount of pressure from opposition parties after it was revealed that the UK Home Office had been attempting to deport British citizens and their children who had arrived in the post-war era - known as the Windrush Generation.  

It had been revealed that landing cards, detailing when members of the Windrush Generation had arrived in the UK, had been destroyed by the Home Office.  And in recent days, that Rudd’s Home Office have been pushing targets for the number of people they deport.

 

Ultimately Rudd had appeared a likely candidate for the next leader of the Conservative Party after Prime Minister Theresa May.  However this scandal has likely irreparably damaged her credibility and the fact that it took her several weeks to resign is almost beyond belief.  This is due to the fact that there is a common constitutional convention in the United Kingdom that the Minister for a Department is responsible for all the misdoings of their Office.  Even if they had no knowledge of these wrongdoings, they are the figurehead of the Department and therefore a reflection of how trustworthy the Office is.

 

Currently the Home Office is under an immense amount of scrutiny and as the Windrush and deportation scandals continue, many Britons - particularly immigrants and children of immigrants - have little to no faith in the ability of one of the most important Offices of our State.

Well, what can I say except from that I'm very worried for the UK and the world in general right now. We are living in scary times and its not good for our government's image if people are resigning and there's scandal left, right and center. But then again when is there not a scandal in any government...we are just unfortunately in that sort of time right now. Better days are ahead.

I feel very sad because it feels like some people want Britain to close itself off from the world and they happen to be the ones in power... 

Here’s to hoping Britain only becomes a better and more tolerant place but there is far too much intolerance right now and it’s not looking great

I completely agree with you...although a lot of people are saying that this is the end I believe we still have time to change for the good and sort this mess out. There is no future if we become more intolerant, more corrupt and more unstable. We are called the UNITED Kingdom for a reason...we are meant to be UNITED. However we are so divided right now.
