Great visual, yes. However I'm not sure I'm digging the direction she's going musically/sonically on this album. She's definitely going for a more contemporary sound overall, but for some reason it just doesn't really sound like her. If I heard this song without knowing who it was by, I'm not sure I would immediately think it was Janelle. Her older tracks, from Electric Lady and before, were like, instantly recognizable. It's a fine song but again, not sure I'm feeling this era. i know i'm in the minority lol.

I think it's simply because we haven't heard her with contemporary production. ArchAndroid was very diverse and experimental, and the Electric Lady was very 60s-80s soul/R&B. I can understand what you're saying, but I'd say these songs are very Janelle.

I love this song. It’s by far my favorite from the album! And GOD DAMN IT, THOSE VISUALS!

Same.

I've been a fan since "Metropolis" and "The ArchAndroid" (2010's best album imo).

"Many Moons" is still one of her best songs and still such an amazing video :worship2:

Fun fact, she wanted to do the same EmotionPicture idea with the albums mentioned above as well. The "Many Moons" video was filmed with a multi-video narrative (of songs from "Metropolis") in mind, but the other videos never came to fruition. Sadly.

Imagine "The ArchAndroid", with its incredibly diverse, genre bouncing sound...each song getting a video? Ugh. Would've been amazing.

HOWEVER, with "Dirty Computer", I am SOOOOO glad to finally see that she finally has the budget to go through with this EmotionPicture idea that she's been wanting to do with each album since 2008. Since the release of "The Electric Lady", she's gotten very popular and relatively well known with the GP (mainstream), hence her huge budget. In fact, this is the first Janelle album I've ever seen get huge hype outside of her fanbase. If that isn't a testament to her FINALLY making it mainstream, idk what it. But I'm so proud :flutter:

Janelle Monáe is gearing up for the release of Dirty Computer this Friday. The album is shaping up to be her most dynamic release yet, with the dystopian visuals that have accompanied her other singles "Django Jane," "Make Me Feel," and "PYNK."

On "I Like That," Monáe is reveling in the fact that she's never fit in. "I don't give a damn if I was the only one," she sings on the hook. She bursts into a rap on the bridge about wearing thrift store clothes. "I remember when I cut my perm off and you rated me a 6 / But even with the tears in my eyes, I always knew I was the ****."

Monáe says Dirty Computer as her most intimate album , and it looks like it is celebrating the things that make people different. The full version of her "emotion picture" for Dirty Computer will premiere on BET and MTV on April 26. Watch the video below.
