Because there's so much news coming out in this battle I decided to make a thread where I'll update all new info as news comes out rather than making new threads every day

 

The latest development Is that the Province of Saskatchewan has said it will now join Alberta in shutting off oil and natural gas supply to BC in an effort to pressure BC to stop blocking the pipeline

 

Trudeau has not yet commented on Saskatchewan teaming up with Alberta on the trade war

UPDATE: Kinder Morgan Says Trudeau has offered financial support so that the Texas Company does not cancel the project but says that Canada is missing the point

 

Kinder Morgan CEO says that financial support is a seperate issue and what they truly want is guarantees that BC or its citizens won't continue to try to sabbatoge the project.

This is esaclating quicker than i thought. Which is really disturbing. My sympathies still lie with the states obviously but ... wow.

The thing is. There's not technology out there that is actually eco friendly. Especially the oil sand mining is probably the second worst way to produce oil after fracking. And how does Canada produce most of its oil? By mining the oil sand of course!

Most of the new projects are done by Insitu steam injections tho which minimize land that requires trees cut down. Also the land has to be reclaimed after they are done with it

 

In Addition Alberta has put in an emmisions cap for the oil sands industry meaning once it hits that ceiling it cannot legally approve new projects.

 

There's actually high environmental standards set it place for oil production here...

 

This is more about not selling oil at such a big discount and loosing so much revenue due to constrained shipping options which leave us with no bargaining power and we have to take the oil price we can getl. 

 

Oil globally is near $70/barrel. WCS (Canada's main benchmark) is barely hitting $50/barrel

 

All past attempts to build pipelines have failed because British Columbia has always found a way to block them

Trudeau was confident that cash incentives would save the project but Kinder Morgan CEO essentially says that it's besides the point and a meaningless offer without guarantees British Columbia will stop interfering
