When you go back you see how clearly aware Nicki was about the “Nicki doesn’t want any other female rappers in the game” narrative and how hard she tried to avoid it but then Cardi and Quavo both kinda fuelled that narrative even if it wasn’t on purpose. Nicki made it clear that it was originally a Quavo/Nicki track but she approved Cardi being on the track but then from there **** got twisted... Cardi doing interviews like “Oh apparently Nicki changed her verse after I came on and I don’t know why she wasn’t on set with us, think it was just schedualing stuff” is shady when she knows Nicki changed her verse by removing Cardi’s name on her request and when she knows they couldn’t be on set together because they share a hairstylist... Nicki even says she told both of them she was worried it would look mean if she wasn’t on set with Cardi... Acting like your unsure of the exact reason Nicki wasn’t on set and acting like you didn’t hear Nicki’s original verse when there are rumours swelling of sneak disses in their verses and rumours swelling of Nicki not wanting to be on set with Cardi makes Nicki look petty even tho Nicki changed her verse FOR Cardi and Nicki tried her best to address how she didn’t want her not being on set with Cardi to be turned into this shady stuff. I don’t even think Nicki is mad or feuding, she still said she appreciated what Cardi said in her last interview - she was just upset and how they allowed this “Nicki is being petty” narrative to continue when they knew that’s not what went down... It's worth noting that Nicki has rarely shown any respect to previous artists, or her contemporaries, so newer artists aren't going to give her respect for that. Every time another musician is mentioned who can pose a threat to Nicki's fame (Lil Kim, Iggy, Cardi, Taylor, Miley) she suddenly gets very passive aggressive, makes a subtle 'friendly but rude' comment, and when the other party responds she then plays the victim. She then uses the attention to release a dis song, it's clever but manipulative marketing. I enjoy her music, don't get me wrong. Just because a current female rapper is killing it doesn’t mean you have to create a ‘feud’ to sell albums and promote yourself, Nicki. It’s not like her new material is fresh anyway.
