Inferno 2,880
So even though Marina has attracted a loyal and decent sized following shes never quite hit the level of mainstream success that she was aiming for. With her next album, possibly at least partially produced by current radio golden boy Jack Antonoff and with possible collaborations with Lana Del Rey, etc., will Marinas next album be her first real top 40 breakthrough record? Will she be a critical darling? Or will it flop and end up forgotten?
arrtpop 2,751
i don’t think she wants to go to mainstream, definitely not as big as gaga or anything. aphrodite

Pop Music 20,540
I hope it's critically acclaimed. I have been a fan of marina for some time now. 2012 to be exact. I have seen her twice in concert and have met her. I miss her music and presence very much. She is a very intelligent beautiful woman that just wants to have fans and have fun and put out her music but also not have to turn into a star and tour and put out music regularly which I respect immensely. I think gaga might eventually do that or at least I hope for her health reasons she at leasts considers this. Pop Music and Lady Gaga forever! ryanripley 86,575
i never really knew she wanted to be mainstream her music doesn't really speak like she does anyway idk tbh and that's what i love about some of these indie girls, they tend to create what they want without a lot of pressure of commercial success https://goo.gl/xMgMvJ
Tom Nook 37,808
I feel like the 2nd option is the most obvious outcome, I hope the promotion of the album goes well especially since Froot of the Month was a cool concept but then the album leaked and she had to do a rushed release Uh Red Wine... Convict... Gah Gah...
Eros92 2,513
Electra Heart and FROOT were great albums so
Bad Monster Kid 13,140
Probably not. I’ll just be happy if she gives us something as good as FROOT. That album is on repeat to still to this day.

If you watch interviews from 2009 to now you see the difference in her mode of thought. Initially she wanted success, she wanted to be noticed with The Family Jewels. And she talks about being very unhappy during that time period because she didn't feel like she was getting the kind of success she wanted. She wanted to be on top, but not like "pop star" on top I guess she wanted to be like an indie sensation but she wasnt. So then you move on to Electra Heart where she kind of caved and was like okay I love Britney I like pop music, im going to stop fighting my label and actually try to play the game and be a pop star and then maybe itll be a big success and ill be happy. So EH happened with Dr. Luke and Stargate and the whole hit factory. She went into it full force and kind of naive and ultimately got burned because she trusted in the wrong people who told her "if you do a, b, and c we'll get you on the radio and youll hit big" and ultimately she didn't. not to say it wasnt successful but it wasnt like the hit it was supposed to be. so she ended up in big debt with her label who branded her a flop which is why she had to take a break and recharge herself which leads us to Froot. Where she stripped the album down to one producer and only her writing with more organic production etc. And even though that album didnt reach for the stars commercially, it was her first album to debut in the top 10 in the US. surprised by that i think she hoped it would get more successful because she was going to plan a repackage a la The Fame Monster for it but she decided not to as the era progressed. so after Froot she wanted to just completely go on hiatus and not even think about music for a good while which leads us to her finally writing and wheels turning and if shes hooking up in the studio with someone like Jack Antonoff clearly theres some aspiration there sorry for the ramble but i literally never get to talk about marina with anyone lol
Quartz 12,535
As long as she serves more Froot the song with her sexy body, she can flop or slay for all I care Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

Mmm its the opposite. She always talks about how connected she was with the album lyrically. She says its very personal. However she worked with the top producers not only through label pressure but also because she wanted to try and embrace pop rather than keep fighting against it because ultimately she likes pop music. So she created a character to help ease her transition into full on pop star but not to cloak her distaste for the music she was creating.

I would disagree with this, I’ve followed her since “I Am Not A Robot” and she has never seemed ingenuine with her career. Electra Heart was definitely a character she created for fun, to experiment with her look and her sound, and to have a consistent album all together. It seemed more like a coping mechanism to express the personal issues like failing relationships, suicide, and depression as a glamorous, personified caricature of herself
