Indie Artists and Telegram

so with all these recent leaks, this little app called Telegram has been brought to my attention and after wasting my time downloading it for a gaga resource of stuff i already have, it got me thinking: indie bands and musicians could really benefit from this app when delivering

what is Telegram?

Telegram is a cloud-based mobile and desktop messaging app with a focus on security and speed. With Telegram, you can send messages, photos, videos and files of any type (doc, zip, mp3, etc), as well as create groups for up to 100,000 people or channels for broadcasting to unlimited audiences. You can write to your phone contacts and find people by their usernames. As a result, Telegram is like SMS and email combined — and can take care of all your personal or business messaging needs. In addition to this, we support end-to-end encrypted voice calls. For example: if you subscribe to the GGD telegram, when there's new Gaga news, they'll send it into the channel and you receive the news direct to your device as well as other files they wish to send

how is this any different to turning on twitter alerts for Gaga (or any musician/celeb)?

not a lot but it's great for people who aren't comfortable with being on social media or just don't use it and that is a select group of people and as mentioned before, Telegram allows the owner of the channel to send other files, not just news alerts etc.

so why are you making a thread about indie artists?

well, i was thinking, i'm a fan of a lot of small bands and artists but i don't really follow them closely. i like their pages on Facebook and follow them on Twitter etc but that doesn't mean every alert gets sent straight to me and any new news from other pop stars gets posted all over forums such as GGD and none of these indie artists will probably ever have a forum dedicated to them or even get talked about enough.

personally, i believe indie artists could really benefit with new releases like new music, new videos, tour announcements etc if they had Telegram for all their fans to be grouped into one place to receive any news directly that would go under the radar on busy Twitter feeds etc

Get that promo Telegram!! :sis:

i mean tbh it's a pretty cool app, i don't really check social media as heavily as i used to and i would love it if a lot of the bands and artists i followed had one for me to sub to

The Louvre

A few years back all my classmates switched collectively from Whatsapp to Telegram for texting for about 4 months, because whatsapp was bought by Facebook and people didn't like that. Everyone switched back to using Whatsapp tho. Whatsapp is encrypted nowadays as well, the only difference is that groups can only hold about 250 people there.

It's said the map of the world is on you. The moon gravitates around you. The seasons escape you.

the channels feature can hold unlimited amounts of members: https://telegram.org/blog/channels

which is what i think indie artists could benefit greatly from in keeping their collect fanbases in the loop

PROPAGNDA

Our band has just adopted Telegram, and it seems like it’s going to work out great! This is our channel:

https://t.me/PROPAGNDA

& this is our supergroup where fans and collaborators alike can interact and ask questions:

https://t.me/PROPAGNATION

As the project progresses, we would be delighted to connect with other acts, and share our music with the world through this incredibly functional, cross-cultural tool. We even released music directly through telegram, where it got picked up and shared via several indie channels, only exponentiating exposure. As you can see, nothing but  optimism here; join us! -> Connect with us on Telegram via the links above, and let’s harness this powerful resource together! - #youhearditfromthesource

PROPAGNDA

First step, download the Telegram app, and apparently both links only send you to the channel, but you can access the group and our first Single directly from that channel. We’ll be there waiting ;)
