I found something in trump's reddit, I dont know what to think of it but it makes some sense, I think its giving him too much credit, what do yall think?

:

Think it through slowly.

(1) Xi changes rules in China. Importantly there is nothing in the rule changes saying Xi is going to be dictator for life. Its the usual stuff about better governance.

(2) China, much like everywhere else, there is politics. There is what the official line is, and there is what everyone knows. So, everyone in Chine knows that the rule change is setting Xi up to declare himself dictator for life. But no one can officially say this.

(3) Importantly, if you are in a faction whose patronage structure is not aligned with Xi, this sucks, because you cannot openly agitate against it. Understand that like everywhere else, China has a left and right, and similar politics.

(4) That is the stage - now enter Trump. Trump knows that this is Xi's move to set himself up for dictator for life. Trump 'has to' respond somehow, because to not respond would be to say that the US is okay with it. But how to respond?

(5) If the White House comes up with a statement that says, Xi new law bad, it will be quickly dismissed by the Chinese as 'American interference in internal Chinese matters', and then will be censored by China's great firewall.

(6) So Trump's problem is, he has to act, but he has to act in a way that will make life hard for Xi, because then that is a signal that the US is not okay with the rule changes. So what can he do?

(7) He plays a masterstoke, he makes a joke which will trigger the leftist media. To make it super obvious, this is leaked to Reuters, which famously is a wire service and not a media organisation, so its veracity is undeniable. So the left will go gaga over the 'joke'. But he also gives himself massive plausible deniability, cause you know, it was a joke.

(8) Now, because it was a joke, explicitly China cannot censor it. Because if China now censors it, they look weak and stupid, who censors a joke right - and Xi looks weak and stupid. So now, the 'joke' can make it past the great firewall.

(9) Now, lets say you are part of a Chinese faction within the CPC, specifically one which is not aligned to Xi. You are looking for allies. So now you can say, 'hey, did you hear about the joke Trump made'. This, 'officially', seems totally innocuous but 'unofficially' says - hey, my faction is not okay with Xi's move, how does your faction feel about it - maybe we should talk somewhere private.

(10) In one single move, Trump laid the groundwork for an anti Xi coalition to start to form inside China. Understand, he changed the memetic reality, that is, he changed what people can officially talk about without getting in trouble. This single 'joke' as you call it, may be responsible for preventing the rise of a dictator in China, which I think we can all agree, would be goddam terrifying.

I don’t think I’ve ever read something more stupid than this.

Like, an 11 year old came up with all this, without knowing anything about China or politics.

ugh people, it was a joke. Even if he would, it'd be downright impossible, not only constitutionally, practically everyone wants democracy. Stop the infancy please, because of such reactions you spoon feed the others the whole 'snowflake' rhetoric. The most fierce Obama haters made fools of themselves by being bitter nostalgic ignorant bigots. Now for Trump, it's infants throwing bombshell tantrums... wonder what'll be for the successor?

Spoiler

inb4 yall think im a trump supporter :excuseu:

how is it a joke ?

jokes are funny.

the president of a democratic country shouldn't even think about joking about an authoritarian rule, where he would be in control.

this wasn't a joke, he meant it.

Even if he meant it.

And allow all our heads of state & government to have a joke, their human too. They should set the right example, but let's be real; too much of a double standard against public people is wrong, we are all guilty.

Like 5 Big Macs, 2 Filet-O-Fish, 3 milkshakes, 12 Diet Cokes, and a bucket of fried chicken.

I'm not even exaggerating :air:
