Sticking up for Bush wasn’t the point or the intention of that comment. While I disagree with Bush on many things politically (not to mention the war crimes associated with that disaster of a war), there seems to be little to no indication that he is a terrible person when not in a political/powerful role. He surrounded himself with war-mongers while in office, which was quite unfortunate. However, in his time after his presidency, I can at least see the groundwork of some type of moral compass. For Trump, I find him to both be politically inept/dangerous AND immoral. Again, I’m not trying to legitimize Bush’s actions while in office. A responsible president would step down and speak to calm the nation and the media would report fairly. An angry, right-wing disenfranchised fringe that are ready to rally around an extreme candidate who seems to share in their anger. Maybe Alex Jones on his own doesn't do much damage, he'll continue screaming about gay frogs and most people won't take him seriously - but when you also have Breitbart, Fox News, and conservative talk radio hosts peddling the same crap it becomes a narrative. If impeachment happens Democrats, I think, need to take the tone of "It's unfortunate, we don't want to see president's impeached, it's a dark day in politics, but it is proof that our institutions work and we will continue to push forward" rather than a celebratory tone that I think will only push the right wing narrative. Eighteen 5,430 Posted February 28, 2018 Share Posted February 28, 2018 i think he'll be reelected if things are right. and i say this because his poll numbers, while low, tend to fluctuate from the mid 30s into the 40s and that tells me that there's a large group of people who tend to vacillate. add that to a potentially crappy democratic candidate, russian meddling, good short-term benefits regarding the passed tax plan, perhaps infrastructure spending, and whatever other legislative victories he might have (maybe immigration?), and finally an FBI investigation that concludes DT did nothing wrong (particularly if that happens on the eve of 2020), then we will have an 8 year donald trump presidency in my view. The truth is these approval ratings really depend on who you poll. http://dailycaller.com/2018/02/26/cnn-skewing-polling-data/ Since Trump supporters (in my opinion) hate liberal media with a passion, the odds of them even participating in a CNN poll for example might be lower. The President still has to go through the formal process of receiving the nomination by the party. I suppose in theory someone could run against President Trump in the party and successfully receive the party’s nomination. However, I’m not sure about the likelihood of success for that outcome.
