>The Republican Party, as an institution, has become a danger to the rule of law and the integrity of our democracy. The problem is not just Donald Trump; it’s the larger political apparatus that made a conscious decision to enable him. In a two-party system, nonpartisanship works only if both parties are consistent democratic actors. If one of them is not predictably so, the space for nonpartisans evaporates. We’re thus driven to believe that the best hope of defending the country from Trump’s Republican enablers, and of saving the Republican Party from itself, is to do as Toren Beasley did: vote mindlessly and mechanically against Republicans at every opportunity, until the party either rights itself or implodes (very preferably the former).

The article is two Republicans (including Benjamin Wittes of Lawfare) writing about how we should boycott Republicans because they are complicit in Trump's erosion of the rule of law.

Great read.

I mean to be honest, while it's a nice thought, I don't think Republican voters are reasonable people... They voted Trump into office... They will vote for an unhinged, racist, sexist, incompetent, undiplomatic, clueless candidate with an R in front of their name above any moderate Democrat.

A significant amount, maybe even the majority, of right wingers in the U.S seem to live in another reality. I don't know how you solve that problem but you just can't expect unreasonable, irrational people to behave in a reasonable and rational way. Frankly, once it was known that Trump was a serious contender in the Republican primaries it was clear that the party and Republican voters had gone off the deep end.

The whole 2 party system is just a mess tbh :triggered:

they rarely ever have a dialogue between the two so the entire nation is divided into 2 giant camps besides it, people actually hate each other because of it :saladga:

I agree. I mean how do you expect a Country not to be divided if you only have 2 parties? In my Country every Party can get seats in the parliament as long as it reaches 4%. In the last election we had about 20 parties to choose from and Now we have 5 sitting in the parliament

Before the Republicans went off the Tea Party deep end, it wasn't so divided. Mostly, Fox News and the easy access of other propaganda has divided people much more than the two party system ever did. As recent as a couple of decades ago, it was common for people to float back and forth between voting for both parties. Congress worked on a bi-partisan format. The majority of Americans identifying as Independent really voted that way. Now, they strongly lean one way or the other.
