What's comical is that Trump doesn't have a clue. As evidenced in this picture, he doesn't even know how to have a basic conversation with people. This man needs notes to say "I hear you". He didn't even know the names of the soldiers killed in Niger last year either. Let's stop going to Trump for change. Change will only come at the State and local levels at this point.

I can't believe he's actually tripling down on this. He said it once at the meeting for the victims and survivors, once in a cabinet meeting, and once here. Where the f*ck are the responsible adults?! Yank the leash on this vermin wtf are y'all doing?! 

You can't even afford to pay teachers livable salaries, where's the money going to come from for the training courses and the guns themselves? Are you going to gut the education budget again? Or will you cut students' after school programs even further to help pay? Or is it that only trained gunman will be qualified to be educators in the U.S.? Won't kids also have to have some sort of gun safety course so the school isn't held liable when if someone gets shot? What happens when a weapon misfires anyway? When a teacher loses their mind and pulls it out? When a student gets their hands on it? Are substitute teachers to be trained gunman as well? What makes him think teachers want that enormous responsibility added to their already incredibly stressful jobs? Teachers aren't body guards. Their passion is to teach, not to kill.

I could get down with the idea of beefed up prevention methods (metal detectors and whatnot) and adding funds to have spare resource officers on campus but that's where the line is drawn. We don't need to militarize our schools.

Okay but why are they automatically assuming the teacher wouldn't just be shot first?

Isn't a gun a dangerous thing to have in a school full stop? What if it got stolen?

You'd have to have it really close by and easy to get to in the case of an emergency like a shooting, so how would you be able to balance that?

Look up cases of gunman being stopped by average civilians who also have guns in different contexts.

We don't have much on these instances, because STILL, the NRA, and Congress have prevented the CDC from classifying Gun-Related deaths as a public health crisis and it can therefore not be funded for study. This is why we don't know how to handle these kinds of things and we can just throw out suggestions to lessen gun violence. Maybe if we followed what other countries have done that do not have this ban, or we like ya know, did research? Let experts come up with educated, informed solutions like the logic-capable society we are, maybe we'd have better answers.

But we do have enough information to know that the idea of a person with a gun being able to take down a gunman in such a scenario is very unlikely. People shoot each other on accident. Police shoot the wrong people. People miss, people with guns are killed before they can react. All of this and more. What doesn't happen? The person with the gun calmly, and collectively, kills the shooter and ends the violence immediately. 

It doesn't. But any story about a random citizen with a gun ending up doing something good is hailed by right wing media (and the NRA) as evidence of this alleged armed civilian that is going to save people from the evil, scary mentally insane lone gunman (if white, if brown, terrorist). Because we don't have any reason to disbelieve them right? We don't have studies showing that these things are anomalies, etc.

Honestly, until we destroy the Dickey Amendment, we're not going to get much further. The NRA has generated and distributed enough propaganda and misinformation about guns, which ones are what function, how they can be modified, etc through right wing media and politicians that even though Americans overwhelmingly believe in gun control regulation, there's enough mystery and cloud over it (along with a crucial lack of definitive information) to prevent anything from being done.

I know I'm like half on topic, but these kids protesting need to do more than propose individual bills to regulate specific guns, they need to get this taken care of.

I’m starting to become more and more convinced that most of America’s money comes from selling guns both locally and to struggling countries. It seems like the very idea of putting a tiny bit of control to guns is simply out of the question. It’s not even a possibility to high officials, when every single human being understands how important it is.

it’s like ‘hey how do we protect people from guns? More Guns! :D’ It seems people at power protect the market of guns as if it were America’s most sacred value, which is sick and absolutely disturbing.

Yikes. The logic is non-existent. Why can't you all take it to a national referendum to outlaw guns? Surely that would be the first port of call, does that option ever get put onto the table? I understand it's in your amendments etc but those were written when automatic weaponry wasn't invented so

I watched the video of the father who lost his daughter and it made me feel sick, I couldn't imagine sending my child to school with the real possibility that they'll never make it home
