This is scary. Have you seen how they arrest people in the Middle East just for having sex? It ain't even about the gay thing, they're going to arrest everybody who has sex outside of wedlock. Like what?? That's crazy.

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

I think it's so f.ucked up that a country is able to ban mutually consentual sex acts. How dare the government tell people which orifices they are allowed to put a penis into. I can't believe they're allowed to, by law, control what people do with their bodies. Especially in this day and age of open-mindedness and gay rights.

This is some dystopian sh.it.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Well Islam is a religion of peace. It's just the people who misinterpret it can be :rip:

Honey, religion in it's nature is a dogma. There's no interpretation, no taking that and making that. It is the way it is, if you couldn't understand that by now I don't think you're religious at all. You're just following some wrong traditions. Religion is the main cause of all the evil in the world. (Well, 90% of it at least). There is no freedom in any religion. Because it is "religion". I was not surprised they did that. It's just a legal thing, I don't believe anything changed. The LGBT community was never free there and never will be.

As if they can enforce this law. :rip: Most people have sex in private. What are they gonna do? Break into people's homes at night to check that they aren't having gay sex? :laughga:

For a third world country like Indonesia fuel with racism, I''m afraid they just might

People should keep religion where it belongs - in their hearts and inside their house walls.

Religion is an option, being gay isn't.

Even though we're minority right now I'm not scared for the future because there are more and more open minded people everday, soon enough they're going to be minority and I just HOPE that we won't tolerate them as they tolerate now.

But it would be fun if we somehow ban religion entirely and make it as it is - pure belief, not facts.

It's a fact? I always thought it's something like the Santa Claus, made up by someone. I mean, people thought the earth is flat, well, some idiots still do, but that tells everything about their IQ-Level.

I come from a Muslim culture and I'm just so sick of this backwards bullshit.

Indonesia from what I can gather is even a lot more conservative than where I'm from, but good God that doesn't excuse this anywhere.

I understand that all cultures move at their own pace and eventually (fingers-crossed in my lifetime) we can all share the same values. But it's sad that Indonesia literally went a step backwards and is actively banning gay sex.

In my country homosexuality is rarely if ever actively prosecuted, and it's always under a "sodomy law" or "extramarital sex" (aka gay sex lmao) unlike other Muslim countries like Jordan and Egypt and now Indonesia.

This is just sad. The Abrahamic religions are so archaic--Islam or otherwise and they ALL need to be reformed once and for all :fthis: They cause more problems than they solve (womens' rights, LGBT rights, illegitimate land acquisition and the list goes on.)

That's actually had something to do with the politicians that want to makes this a thing to blew up their name if that's make sense(?) Indonesia actually does not really talk or say anything about LGBT issues before but out of a sudden it's becoming a hot topic right now and LGBTq community trapped in a really bad/negative frame by the media, and that triggering the conservative/religious people and that makes all this propaganda something like "LGBTQ is a virus" "the earthquake that just happened is because of them! They're make God mad!!" and it stirring the GP opinion about LGBTq community #SorryMyEnglishIsReallyBad :laughga:

But still even before or after, the majority of Indonesian is still homophobic whether they're muslim or not :fthis:

And i actually gonna say this because i just notice something odd,

INDONESIA IS LIKE A PARALLEL COUNTRY OF USA :icega: idk if it's for the good or the bad :laughga:

This is not true. This generalization is that type of thing that usually puts a Christian against a Muslim and viceversa. Just because we don't go on religious wars anymore (Crusades say hi) or we don't have any important, or real I should say, theocratic systems, that doesn't mean that Christianity today has only put "basic guidelines of being a good neighbour but not an ardent worshipper". Maybe that's the case where you are from but the rest of the world is another story.

The impact that these two religions have had is pretty much the same, especially when it comes to LGBT rights. I live in Italy and you have no idea the impact that Catholicism has had on my culture. Of course they can't ban gay sex here or put us in conversion camps because thankfully we live in a democracy but that doesn't change the fact that the same kind of fanatics/extremists you can find in Islamic countries can also be found in Christian ones. Perhaps Christian barbarities do not have the same mediatic resonance of Islamic ones but they still happen. And I don't really care about the form of the violence: violence is violence, whether you kill, torture, bully, ban stuff and so on.

Moreover, this whole "religion of peace thing" needs to stop. If you're talking message-wise... have you ever read the Bible? The same **** you can read in the Quran, can also be found in the Bible. Maybe only the New Testament is a little better when it comes to its overall message. But the rest is pretty much the same. If we're talking about how the religion spread instead, that's also pretty much the same. The only thing is that Christians only remembers that they were persecuted and not persecutors too.

And I do agree with the rest of your statement, just not that part in particular. I know I went a little off-track with this comment, but I needed to make this point. Not only to you, but really to everybody.

As someone who’s studied BOTH Christianity and Islam (to degree level) I know the impact both have had and I think my original post showed my distaste for both religions...

So you laying in to my religion of peace comment and the impact of Christianity is all good and fine, I agree with you, but you’re making it out like I disagreed with you in the first place.

No I don’t.  They’re both disgusting and that’s what I said at the start of my post.

However, as I said, during the 1500s/1600s Christianity was forced to change radically and remove many of the extreme elements of its practices.  The Crusades began in the 1100s for context and yes since then Christians have used their religion to go on more barbaric wars.

I didn’t say Christian atrocities didn’t happen, I acknowledged that they do by saying they’re both awful and I’m scared of extremely religious nations?   My post focused on Islam and the fact Islam as a religion has been very conservative while Christianity has actually had to change itself.

I do agree that in other nations Christianity is still very conservative especially compared to the UK.  But that is why I put “Western World”, in most Western nations, Christianity’s influence is on the wane (however I do think this is in more Protestant nations and agree with your point about Italy and other Catholic nations eg Poland being very conservative).  And both are huge examples of faith slowing down the progress of LGBT rights which in Protestant nations like Holland, the UK and Belgium have taken off in the last decade much faster.

And yes the Old Testament is full of vile things (again I didn’t say it wasn’t) but unlike the Qur’an the Bible the OT is essentially there for backstory while the NT is the text Christians essentially adhere to.

Basically I think you’ve read my post, obviously you have your own experience growing up which is different to mine.

But I believe you’ve just read it in a way where because I’ve focused on Islam (seeing as this thread is about an Islamic country), you’ve decided I am taking it easy on Christianity and therefore want to educate me.  That’s great and I do always enjoy learning more, but the points you’ve made are ones that I already agree with, I just didn’t write them in my post in an explicit manner.

I thought most people would understand me saying I hate Christianity, means I hate Christianity and I’m not going to reply to any more posts on this thread, I made my thoughts pretty clear and if you want you can DM me and discuss this more.

I hate reiterating this but I have studied both religions at degree level so I have a pretty clear idea of the history of both and the main atrocities committed by both.

edit: sorry if my tone is aggressive, I know you’re just trying to educate but  the tl;dr is I already know and agree!

show me to me please

Neighbors are allowed to call the legal institutions like police to check on us if they found out we act suspicious (you know we can’t hide our rainbow rite?) like bringing a company to our house. And police have right to enter our property to check if we do “illegal” things, it means we dont have any chance to came out from the closet we gonna enter “apocalypse survival basement “ so we dont get caught

I’m sorry, I should’ve explained it better. My comment was not really a response to yours but a reaction to everything I’ve read in this thread. That’s why I said that I was going a little off the tracks.

The thing is that I feared that the generalization I addressed was gonna be misinterpreted, hence my long rant.

I’m sorry if I came off as arrogant or a know-it-all.

Don't you think maybe they are the same thing? Love and attention?

I already thought it was considering Indonesia is thought to be one of the most conservative religious states in the world?

OT: @Melech just so you know, I can see what kind of posts you’re favoriting in here about being tired of defending the “trash religion that is Islam” and how western liberals are stupid to try to defend Muslims as a peaceful group of people, all because one of the most conservative communities in the world acts conservative. I’ll make sure to keep this in mind every time you try to feel victimized in other threads when you get called out for your bullshit. I expect it from some members in here because quite frankly they don’t know much, but considering you’re always getting into subjects of religion and have yet to grasp the concept that people’s interpretation and religious values vary, I’m still a bit surprise. Just a heads up.

I don’t have anything against moderate Muslims. But conservatives need to be called out. Anyway this is my last post on the page. Enjoy.

There are crackdowns in Chechnya or Egypt.

The egyptians go on Grindr and set up hookups. I dont think that they will randomly knock on peoples houses and ask if they are having gay sex.
