Iceland to ban male circumcision

Classique case of traditions, gotta love(!) those antiquated beliefs!

I find it sad that circumcised men feel disgusted/scared by the natural state of a penis and that people are defending circumcision at birth.

I think you’ll notice that most men here who are uncircumcised do not think foreskin is weird in the slightest.

It is natural, you experience more sexual pleasure and if for medical or personal reasons a person wishes to be circumcised when they can consent, I don’t think anyone would argue against that.

How about instead of trying to justify slicing a baby by saying it’s more hygienic, just teach your sons how to wash properly and practice sex safely?

I don’t know about the rest of the world but I got taught how to wash properly and take care of myself by my family and at school, is this such a hard thing to do?

You are 100% true in what you said. It is not about hygiene. It's religion and tradition but most importantly it is about ignorance.

I can see how people would have a preference not to be cut but for me it honestly hasn't bothered me. Maybe it's just me, maybe it isn't. Who knows?

@Melech I want to know your thoughts about this. I am actually devastated by many of the comments here, idk why but it actually saddens me to read these comments. As a Jew I take pride (this sounds so silly) on my circumcised penis, and I really do and I wouldn't want it any other way. It's part of my identity. Comparing this to female mutilation is such a barbarity and an incredibly superficial and sensationalized connection. To me this was part of my education and formation while growing up. Parents just have certain decisions, we can't change the way they raise kids (unless it's abusive, etc). We are, for better or for worse, the product of our parent's genes and how they (or whoever had the parental figure) moulded us. Idk, it all very much feels like a violation on religious freedom, and I do believe many people here will support this law in sight of their views of Islam and the state of Israel.

Why are you sad tho? Iceland belongs to Europe, and in Europe it's not normal to circumcise babies, only if it's really necessary and  has an medical issue. To be honest, why should we allow something that is not "normal" here in Europe? The guys i know, who are circumcised are moslems mostly, or jews. I mean i get where you coming from, but religious freedom shouldn't allow you to do what you want.

I’m sad because antisemitism has morphed into a more subtle form of itself. I understand why people would be against the act itself, but I think its much sensationalized and is married with other...ideas. Also discrediting it as not normal is a problem, as well as you saying “we...europe”. If you really had a problem with circumsicion  you should speak in world tense, if that makes sense, or else it reads as the rising islamophobia/antisemitism in...your Europe. I know you are very likely to not be any sort of antisemetic or islamophobic, but I think this ban is part of a larger narrative that is driving religion out of its position. Part of me is just confused by what I spiritually believe and intellectually perceive (that there probably isn’t any g-d, but that there is solace and comfort in my religious community). So Idk, im confused and astonished by the overwhelming majority here who agree with the ban. ❤️❤️❤️ This all comes from a place of love and I hope you understand my sentiment.

As i said, i get your point of view. But you have also to see it from different perspective. What is "normal" to you or me, doesn't need to be "normal" to the third person. And the problem is just with the term freedom of religion. In my opinion it should disappear, because it's to difficult to control, or say what is okay or not.

Till i started watching ****s, i have never seen a circumcised penis before, there was just this one guy from our class, who had problems with his foreskin, and it need to be cut off, but it was weird for him, and it was weird for us, because in our opinions, something was wrong with his ****, because he had to cut it off. This was also the way we were raised. I mean, i don't have anything against it, if someone want's to do it later on, but doing it on babies? For me it's barbaric, and i don't see any reason why i should change, just so it fits someones religion. Also, you point out only one side, you haven't pointed out, how many have said that uncut d*cks are gross, filthy and they even smell like cheese, because as it seem, all of us uncut guys have never heard of bathing or something, and those accusations come mostly from cut guys.

This is true. Millions of Muslims and Jews belong in Europe, they’re Europeans just as anyone else and they’ve been doing this for centuries. Just because Christian part of Europe never did it, it doesn’t mean it’s barbaric, there’s just no understanding for different cultures and traditions and there’s this pushing of their own, what is normal to them, it has to be normal to everyone else.
