So a thread has led me to do some research and I realised, that for all my years as a stan, I have no clue what this means:

She's done this A LOT. 

I never got the meaning since its clearly not even associated with ONE song or even one era.

It's a reference to the symbol of the all-seeing eye, which basically means God watching over humanity. Imo, she's using it as a commentary of fame, as in the idol status puts her in an omnipotent and powerful position. Popstars kinda exude this God-like image; they are worshipped and revered alike. Gaga watches over us from the platform of celebrity.

I feel like the context is kinda fitting cuz she does it a lot in TF/TFM era, an album commenting on fame, and then she does it in the Applause performance, again a song about fame and pop culture, and then Jesse uses the gesture in a song about riches and fame, and Gaga does it before poisoning everyone in Telephone vid to show us that she is in power. idk that's my take

I never really gave it much thought before. I guess I always thought that it had to do with duality of self or spirit. Like the light and dark version of herself. The fame part and the regular part. The creative part and the regular part. One light eye, one dark eye. I always noticed that she likes to keep the halves of her body different in some way. Like a lightning bold over one eye, bangs that are longer on one side, hats/head pieces that are way tilted. Shoulder pads and costumes that show asymmetry.

She does cover her eye a lot and in more subtle ways like her hair, so I would imagine its intentional...

seriously, I love conspiracy theories and back then I watched a lot of "woke Christians" analyzing gaga's videos and now I can tell you ALL the satanic/illuminati references in each of her mvs. each is full of them!
