DiscoHeaven23 35,007
So I live in Illinois and we have elections for our new governor this year. This woman Jeanne Ives is running in the primaries against the current Republican governor, to be the Republican candidate for governor. She is a current state representative and QUITE conservative. She's running on a platform that the current Republican governor isn't conservative enough and has let conservative values down. Well she's had this ad out for a few weeks now and it is RACIST and TRANSPHOBIC. The first time I saw it I couldn't believe my eyes. It plays all the time. The transwoman in the video isn't even trans, it's an actor. When asked about this, Jeanne said that that's what they look like, she's seen one. The ad is sarcastic in tone, with a bunch of "liberals", thanking the republican governor (because in Jeanne's eyes, he's done so much for liberals as a governor)
MillionMarkys 350
How is it racist?

"Sanctuary city/sate", given context of rest of ad, is clearly aimed at xenophobes. And that's me being charitable. Regardless, I don't see Republicans keeping IL Gov in 2018. Maybe someone with a better understanding of the state can say otherwise.

MillionMarkys 350
OK well I'm not very familiar with American politics so I didn't understand. I just find these ads so laughable, there were some on when I went to Florida in late summer 2016 so it wasn't long before the election and I can't believe they're real. Florida is a big state that can go either way during a sate-wide election so it's always flooded with ads. It makes watching TV here during an election impossible. 4 minutes ago, Fish said: im so sorry to break it to you but... the US is **cked. Like really. I mean, yeah sort of, but no. This ad is from a fringe candidate who's trying to unseat the person in her party who's already Governor. She (probably) won't be on the ballot. Illinois is interesting because it is considered blue, but can go red (as seen with the current Republican governor. In Illinois its pretty much the blue area of Chicago and surrounding towns, versus the rest of the red state. But because of population breakdown, Chicago area comes out on top. This is what the presidential elections looked like in 2016 Clinton: 55.83% Trump: 38.76%

I hate people who make ignorant comments like this. Just because of a politician making some decisions you don't like does not mean the country is effed. It has always, and will always be, the most powerful (and greatest in my opinion, long before Mr. Trump trademarked that saying) country in the world. The US allows people to have different opinions and doesn't police them unlike Canada and the UK (where I'm from), which adds to why it works. I feel bad for the out of touch folks in the deep red.
