Lady Gaga Lyric Analysis Thread

Let's do something fun and let's post Gaga lyrics that we love, dislike, appreciate, find funny, find inspirational, find puzzling/confusing etc...! What's more fun than talking artistry with fellow fans on a Gaga site. :kara:

imo Come To Mama has some of her best lyrical work ever. It's literally genius!

Also I really like Just Another Day...it's so beautiful. I think it lyrically talks about depression and how you gotta take things lightly because "after all..it's just another day". It almost sounds like a note to self or self memo. Like she is singing her way through a depression episode. The contrast of the hidden meaning of the song with the upbeat rhythm makes me think she is trying to "fake" happiness until she believes it.  Like a bit of a mantra. Like she is walking herself through steps to cheer herself up in the song.."i'll walk alone on a different street and smile at all the new strange I meet!" she sings gleefully but you can hear that it sounds almost "superficial" like she is really trying to conjure up the feeling of joy. idk how to properly explain tbh but yeah that is how I interpret it.

could you explain your analysis of Come To Mama?? Cause I don't see why it's her best lyrics ever.

To me, Poker Face might be the most clever lyrics she wrote

There's this post on ATRL that explains that SHICD could be interpreted as having 3 meanings and it was super interesting. I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: Oh I remember what it was about now. It was specifically about the 'touch myself' line that could be interpreted to have 3 meanings. One meaning was about masturbation, the second about putting on makeup, and another was about injecting drugs.
Edit 2: found it, goes into more detail than that one line: https://classic.atrl.net/forums/showthread.php?p=25462775#25462775

Do you feel him sir?

I'd want to but I suddenly got tired after writing the analysis for JAD. English isn't my first language so it was draining :cryga:

But to resume my thoughts on CTM I just like a lot of the word play. I know it has a pretty simplistic message but the lyrics she chose and metaphors used are literally philosophical. It is sophisticatedly written imo. Like "Dude in a lab coat and a man of God, Fought over prisms and a forty-day flood, Well, I say rainbows did more than they've ever done, So why do we gotta fight over ideas?,We're talkin' the same old **** after all of these years" and "Psychic guru catches minnows in the harbor, Everyone tells him he should work a little harder,(Hey, man, get to work, catch up), They all tell you that freedom must be bought, But, baby, he's already caught them, So why do we gotta tell each other how to live?,The only prisons that exist are ones we put each other in"

like you could literally write a dissertation on these lyrics intersecting them to capitalism, social inequalities/human rights, classism & imperialism. Those lyrics are just so clever imo. She did THAT :cryga:

All the lyrics to "Perfect Illusion" are about Troy Carter and her ex-management, lol. Listen to it again.

The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥

yes this is how I viewed the lyrics. I think it was about fame and fans and she used sort of relationship metaphores. Also her trying it with the social media instagram thing was cute. :poot: girl just tell us you were low key shading the fake fans who were a Perfect Illusion  :triggered::ladyhaha:

I hate to bring this up but isn't CTM originally written by Father John Misty?  Im not sure if it was a collaboration or he orignally wrote and she styled it. There's a demo of his on YouTube under "Cum to mama". Gaga changed some of the lyrics such as spears to stones. Hence why the line "Throwin' spears at your sisters and your brothers
Man, it wasn't that long ago we were all living in the jungle" makes more sense than stones. As well in the lab coat segment gaga changed it to "ideas" instead of "spheres". Fathers John's version also has a psychic stoner instead of the psychic guru. The line is "Psychic stoner catches minnows in the harbor
Everyone tells him he should work a little harder
They all believe that freedom is a bitch
But baby, he's already got her
So why do we gotta
Gotta believe that there's only night more to live."

Ever took ecstasy and had a huge hangover the last couple days? While you’re high you have so much endorphins and so much serotonin in your body, cause you force it to empty all the tanks, so the next day you have a major come down. „It wasn’t love it was a perfect illusion“

but I think you can interpretete this song in so many ways and it just fits on so many situations.

Judas is one of the best-written songs of GAGA. The metaphoric symbolism blew my mind.
