Dont confuse cruelty with clickbait titles, they will put extreme headlines, but at the core, its well deserved negative criticism, its supposed to be the biggest musical performance of the year, so its gotta be as perfect and as spectacular as you can make it. JT's just felt like an unrehearsed weekend gig.

Wow, the shade. Prince puns, Man Of The Woods puns, sassy tellings off (The LA Times one is quite funny, though). It really is like they're in competition for the meanest headline. It's so rare to see a male artist receive this level of criticism. The only time something this remotely bad happens is if the guy in question has messed up big time. Justin didn't mess up, per se, he just put on a lacklustre show, albeit with some sound issues. And yet, the media give him the roasting that they usually only reserve for females who put on lacklustre shows. Males always get praised for mediocrity. To see it not happening this time is like witnessing the birth of a unicorn. Please let this be a sign that the media is going to start raising its standards when it comes to critique of male artists because its long overdue.

I was thinking the same thing. I knew he was heavily inspired by MJ but it was that night that I really saw how deep that inspiration went. It was like watching an MJ tribute indeed. I mean, Gaga was clearly heavily inspired by Madonna in her early days, but by the time AP came around, she'd found her own groove and has only expanded since then. When she did the SB, I didn't feel like she was trying to be anyone other than herself. After 16 years as a solo artist, you'd think Justin would've found his own identity by now.

I agree with everything you said, but I must correct you when you said that he never apologised. He did, although I don't think he did it more than once. He was asked about it on MTV about a year later and he said: "If you consider it 50/50, then I probably got 10% of the blame and I think that says something about society. I think America is harsher on women. I think America is unfairly harsh on ethnic people. At the time, it was so crazy to me, I felt I didn't handle it the best way I could have." Sure, it depends on your idea of an apology. I don't know if I ever heard the word "sorry" come out his mouth, whether it was directed personally at Janet or the situation as a whole but that surely counts as an apology of sorts, right? And although I can't find footage of it, he apparently gave 2 separate apologies in his speeches after winning 2 Grammys shortly afterwards, albeit scripted.

So, did the line about "I saw you trying to act cute on tv, just let me clear the air, we missed you on the charts last week, that's right, you weren't there" was directed at her? And the next bit referenced Prince's "sexy never left" moment? I thought that entire bit was about Prince but when has Prince ever tried to act cute? That's what women try to be. So, he was speaking about Janet, then? There was also a need to "clear the air" about the incident afterwards, so that also makes sense. I remember this song when it came out but I never paid close attention to the lyrics until now. This is wild. With all this coming out now, I'm actually kinda glad he's having a downfall. Just showed how full of himself he was all these years. To pay tribute to Prince all this time later is so slimy. Some media outlet called him a culture vulture afterwards. How true. He only wanted to say what a good artist Prince was now that he's dead and it's the cool thing to fawn over him. Ugh.

So not only he behaved bad to him when he was alive, he didn't respect his wishes after his death.. how disrespectful a person can be not only to a legend but to a him as person?!

I never liked him even with NSYNC, did you know that he never told them that his not coming back? they went for a hiatus so he could do the solo album and since then he never talked to them and didn't even dare to say that he's not coming back and it's time to split.. they got a call from him only when he needed them for the VMA performance..

I didn't know what the deal was with NSYNC afterwards. I assumed they just wanted to split. Their success was still stratospheric, even by the standards back then. Their last album sold 1.8 million in America in its first week and they got a top  single from it. Sure, their other singles were showing signs of them being on the wane but their tour still made millions. There was no reason why they needed to stop considering they'd only been around for 4 years. But now I wonder how much Justin's solo success was a big reason for it. So many groups split when their lead singer goes solo, gets a big ego and suddenly decides that they don't need their bandmates anymore. And maybe they're right but it's also so slimy the way they tend to break up immediately after their first big solo success, not even one more album in them. Clearly, Justin thought he was too good to be in a boyband. He was the Zayn Malik of his time (Zayn's clearly inspired by him a bit, oddly enough). Which is funny because if he thought he was too good, why did he put himself forward for this chance all those years ago? At least with Zayn, he went on X Factor as a soloist and wasn't expecting the chance of being in a boyband and thought if he didn't take it, he'd never make it. But Justin? He knew what he was getting into from the get go. It sure didn't take him long to start letting fame go to his head.

And let's not forget his "feature" with MJ for Love Never So Good.. I'm pretty sure MJ would never allow this kind of feature.. again, he forced himself on a deceased legend against everyone's will..
