It could have killed her. And she explains how this was the worst to her.

I did say it was super wrong. I'm not excusing it. But it's not a repeated predatory psycopathic behavior like Weinstein. It was a horrible, misjudgement and misuse of power, by a guy who is a neurotic director. Tarantino needs to own up to it and if it means some sort of punishment by the courts he should not fight it.

It is repeated sadistic behavior.

Check the video on first page.

My god Harvey is a monster!

Honestly that video of the crash is so hard to watch. Knowing she was so scared and didn’t feel safe doing it, yet Tarantino forced her and even threatened her with “if you don’t hit 40 your hair won’t look good and I’ll make you do it again!” is so f**ked up

You’re working on a million dollar budget film, you can afford a professional stunt double to do scenes like that. Especially when the car is a wreck and unsafe to drive!

this and the story of the director of The Shining mentally abusing his female lead for "authentic" cinema really bother me because people praise it as some kind of skill that should be admired

Tarantino is so messed up

I was actually feeling physically uncomfortable hearing this video. The descriptions of it were enough to make me start to breathe differently. I can't get over the amount of people laughing in the audience at this madness. It didn't even sound like nervous laughter either. I'm all for macabre humour but come on. Then I actually went and watched the scene in question. It was one of the most disturbing videos I've ever watched, knowing that this was real. How on earth did he get away with this even after this interview was aired with his confession? Even the respective Wiki pages don't mention this under "filming" or "controversies."

I've been a huge fan of Tarantino for years, and I've always thought of him as a feminist because of movies like Kill Bill, Death Proof, and Jackie Brown. So this really ****ing sucks. I used to really love Kubrick too until I read about how he basically ****ing tortured Shelley Duvall during the filming of The Shining and she's still dealing with the mental effects of that even today. Can people in the entertainment industry just not be assholes?

That's the thing - some men get involved in "feminist" stuff like this and fool the world into thinking they're pro women. Society is f**ked up and it comes to how women are socialised to view their empowerment. Women are sent the message that being overtly sexual makes you empowered even though men are empowered without sexualising themselves in the same way. In Hollywood, it's all this and more. Women are sent the message that doing movies where you have to be badass and risk your safety and do controversial things automatically makes you empowered. Male directors eat this stuff up, knowing that directing women a certain way will give them a good image as a feminist director, winning them female fans and praise. But it's mostly always BS. Such directors will convince women that doing exploitative scenes makes them look cool and empowered but it's really just a way for the director to get a sick kick. A lot of men have sick fantasies that they wish they could take out on someone but their wife/partner won't stand for it, so they take it out on their female employees or any other woman who they see as less than. I've heard many stories about the ways that male directors push their female stars to get emotion out of them. It's so telling that they like doing this kinda thing so deliberately think of situations in their films where they'll have to yell at or slap an actress to get the ultimate emotion out of her for an abuse/rape scene.

Wow. I've never seen that video, but it doesn't surprise me Tarantino is a weird perfectionist.  He needs to see on screen what he has pictured in his head.  It's super wrong but it isn't the gross sexual abuse the Weinstein has done to practically woman he employs.

Maybe it's because you didn't see it or read the article, just because he didn't do something sexual doesn't make it any less. Uma could've died or been paralyzed.

but it's out of context in a discussion about sex abuse
