Charli XCX is my current fav pop girl. She never disappoints. She delivered 3 albums worth of music last year and am forever grateful.

Maybe drag your head out of the Billboard Hot 100 hole and you'll find some incredible music, especially in 'urban music'.

Then we'll chat again.

My whole point was that the charting stuff sucked but hey ok

Well my OP was talking about longetivity/ legend status. That would include dominating BB which @Enigma was referring to. They just wanted to point out the Urban, bland trash in the mainstream.

i dont think he/ she intended to bash indie urban music

Yeah, but your list is completely missing out all the amazing work that's come out (and still charted) in 2017 - Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, Chance The Rapper, The Weeknd, Childish Gambino, Rihanna/DJ Khalid (ok, a stretch), Tyler The Creator, Drake, SZA, Sampha, Frank Ocean, etc

I'm just saying, before you start dissing a whole genre in such a rude way that you did, maybe don't cherry pick examples of songs as evidence, when Hip-Hop/R&B had one of its strongest years (musically, visually, lyrically).

Sorry if I'm offending you, but you offended me with that dismissal of 'urban music'.

bloody g

It's too early to say, but New Rules and Dua Lipa remind me a lot of Gaga with Just Dance. We'll see.

I always tend to be over the top with my statements so I get how I may have been offensive and sorry for it, I just thought it was a consensus that the now-charting stuff was bad, but seems like I was wrong

I still think the people you named aren't interesting at all, even tho some of them are more talented than some others.

At this point it's a matter of opinions, and mine is that music this year was a snoozefest :/

From the Billboard Hot 100

Havana : only actual good song charting since years

Perfect : haven't heard it, but it's Ed Sheeran, so...

Rockstar : I've never heard something that made me wanna sleep more than that

Finesse : Y'ALL HYPE IT SO MUCH but it's actually boring af

Bad at love : Halsey is meh but she's still trying harder than the other flops

Thunder : don't like it but they're talented so ok

No limits : wtf is that never heard

New rules : never heard she just looks boring af and there's no way she's becoming a pop icon like gaga or katy

Too Good at Goodbyes : Sam Smith wow must be a bop :awkney:

Motorsport : was a cute bop

Then **** goes bad, because Gucci Gang is there, and after that it's all trash urban **** I never heard about

When you think that one day ****ing Bad Romance was struggling to get a #1 because another song was a bigger bop, and that under them it was also a bunch of bops, you can't tell me today's charts are looking cute :neyde:

How can you judge if you haven't heard half of those songs? lol:awkney:

The artist itself + the visuals / covers / MV or whatever make for half the quality since we're talking about who's a proper icon

And turns out that all of those I've named suck, so here's your answer

Definitely Dua Lipa. She is so talented, gorgeous, and feminine.

The way she sang 'Homesick' on SNL literally blew me away.
