How would you define the term 'Dark Pop'?

I think its generally agreed upon that in some form or another, this fanbase wants Gaga to go for a 'darker' overall theme for her next album. However, there seems to be less of a consensus on what the term 'dark pop' means. So the question is, how would you as an individual define what 'dark pop' means to you? And what would your ideal 'dark pop' era look like?

Songs with loud thunderous and grimy instrumentals over melancholy lyrics? Strange and ambivalent visuals like the Coachella intro? Literally The Fame Monster 2.0?

Sound off below.

I think there can be many forms of dark pop. I think we can all agree that Gaga is at her finest when her sound or lyrics are moreso DITD or Monster or even MTN/Judas. But the intro to Coachella is EPIC...

I mean it depends since pop is not one sound or genre :poot: and I think a lot of members struggle to accept this fact :poot:

But anyways, something moody and atmospheric. The lyrics and production are a big deciding factor when you decide what kind of pop subgenre we’re dealing with. Even the vocals play a major role in it.

It's a vague term for pop music with some dark aesthetic, ideas, undertones, imagery etc, but it can mean anything (''dark'' in the Bad Romance way or Born To Die way).

Wiki lists Gaga, Lorde and Lana for this genre.

Something frighteningly beautiful, with intensity and that pain behind something, wrapped into a heavy melody and a large sound.

Yes, I also do love partying in moving houses as seen in that one Bacardi tv ad.
