Are you actually French? I live in France and I know some girls who are called Joanne. And this is totally a girl name. it would sound really really really really really weird if a French boy was called Joanne.

Where ? I have never met any girl called Joanne ! I know at least 3 Johanna though. I know some boys called Johan. That's why I think it would be weird if a woman was called Joanne, because sonically I would assume it's "Johan", so that it's a man. (well, now not exactly, if I hear someone saying "Joanne" or "Johan", my first reaction would be "Are they talking about Gaga's album ? ")

Where are you from ? Maybe it depends on the region.
