StrawberryBlond 14,685
It's time for my annual best and worst music of the year list, a bit belated this time. I really wanted to make it as close to perfect as I could. For those who don't know, I review music as an amateur and I make one of these lists every year, listing the best and worst songs and albums in my opinion. Top 40 songs and top 20 albums each way. The music must be released in 2017 (re-released singles can count if they weren't big before) and a song has to be a single to be listed in the singles list. I only give a rating to albums, almost all the singles have the same rating, so there's no point. Its been another hard year, albums especially seem to be getting worse and worse, hence the low quality of rating. Hope it gets better in 2018. Bear in my mind all my choices are just based on the music, not on how much I like the artists, nor do I take into consideration anything that happened in their personal lives, it's just the music as I hear it. Just be warned, for those who have never seen my lists, my taste is VERY eclectic, so don't expect to see all my picks from the one genre or for there to be a particular taste running through the whole lists, I love music from all over! So, without further ado, here we go, working down to the best/worst. I've spoilered the top ten of each list for maximum surprise. Top 40 Best Singles of 2017 40. ryanripley 86,575
i hate to bust up your list but John Wayne wasn't released as a single, it was just given a music video for the fans but if that counts as a 2017 here then don't worry https://goo.gl/xMgMvJ
Red Velvet 10,988
I agree with your list except in my mind, I will exchange Galway Girl for Swish Swish. I'm like some kind of supernova

NovaArt 882
I would add Dusk Til Dawn in the best singles. I heard it for the first time today and I'm loving it! And actually John Wayne and Hey Hey Hey weren't singles, but I do agree with their positions.
scallywally 626
I need to listen to a few of these, I giggled at the worst, totally agree. Ive got visitors for the weekend but will listen to the couple in your top 10 I havent heard (thanks for the tips) and reply. I didn't even know Anastasia had a song out. I laughed, it must be bad. Ill listen to that one too for the fun of it. I agree with your positions of Harrys singles, Liam and Lana .
SirLudicopro 1,351
Totally disagree with Boredom in the worst singles, it’s a beautiful song. Flower Boy is my 3rd favorite album of 2017 and I though Boredom was a highlight. Then again, it’s your opinion 🤷🏻♂️ Also disagree with Don’t Don’t Do It and Slide, love those two. Here’s my top 10 albums: 1. Lorde - Melodrama 2. SZA - Ctrl 3. Tyler, the Creator - Flower Boy 4. Kesha - Rainbow 5. Taylor Swift - reputation 6. Kelela - Take Me Apart 7. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. 8. Daniel Caesar - Freudian 9. Alvvays - Antisocialites 10. Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life And my top 4 songs (these are my 4 biggest highlights of the year, there are a lot of other songs I liked but I can’t rank them): 1. Lorde - Supercut 2. SZA - Supermodel 3. Kesha - Praying 4. Tyler, the Creator ft. Kali Uchis - See You Again

I used to count promo singles but not anymore unless they have a video. And because sso many artist are releasing visual albums now, I only nominate songs that were actually presented as singles from the album. If I did think every song on a visual album was elgible, single or not, Love Is Pain by Fergie would have been on there and I wanted to put it there, bit it wasn't an official single. 21 hours ago, Bokhee said: I would add Dusk Til Dawn in the best singles. I thought Dusk Til Dawn was ok, but nothing outstanding. And regarding the single situation, read my post above. 21 hours ago, scallywally said: I need to listen to a few of these, I giggled at the worst, totally agree. Ill listen to that one too for the fun of it. I agree with your positions of Harrys singles, Liam and Lana . Glad to see my taste is shared by others! The Anastasia song isn't that bad, hence why it's so low on the top 40, it's more that the background production is awful and her last album was so much better that I felt disappointed that she took a big downturn with this one. The ones in the lower ranks are more in the "mediocre" range and its surprisingly hard to find 40 truly awful singles in a year, so the ones at the bottom of the list tend to have more of an unnecessarily harsh feel about them and the Anastasia one was like that. I had to fill up the list unfortunately, so I just had to go down my review list, picking out what I listed as worst and see if it was a single and think: "It'll have to do." 21 hours ago, Chrastapher said: Honey this taste Sorry, their album just didn't do it for me, seemed to be a lot of mumbo-jumbo I didn't understand. I know when they're being political and so forth but what are they actually singing about? Political songs are only meaningful when the words are actually political. 1000 was ranked so high on the worst singles list for that reason - it's just a bunch of irritating production with a few random phrases shouted over it. It's meant to encourage people to protest but it doesn't inspire that feeling in me at all, it just seems like an excuse to use certain production techniques and is about nothingness. Real Friends has actually grown on me. I guess I wasn't in the right mood the first time I heard it. I can actually relate to it amazingly and it's more meaningful than I first anticipated. I like the lyrics about: "I stay up talking to the moon but feeling so alone in every crowded room," "I just want to talk about nothing with somebody who means something," and "tell me what's the point in a moon like this when I'm alone again?" especially, this describes me totally! I still would've liked to know how the album would've sounded like in its original conception, though, with Crying In The Club, I Have Questions and OMG on it, as well as supposedly confirmed tracks like Scar Tissue. 20 hours ago, Morphine Prince said: Not sure why I was tagged in this post but I don’t like spam. Real Friends is #1 on my iTunes Top 25 Most Played despite the fact it came out a month ago! The song is just so easygoing, it's my go-to when I'm relaxing/want to relax! It makes me think of going outside on a warm California morning sunrise in suburbia and just being happy, starting fresh and having fun. It's a bittersweet song that makes me think of my childhood, highly nostalgic. I don't know, it's just really special to me. I love it.
