Interesting. I'd like to know why we're only just hearing about it recently, then. I can't imagine they had much to talk about in the 70's, when rap was only starting to be properly invented, before white people got involved in it, before rap attire is what it is, before white people got black hairstyles, before white people wore Native American headdresses to Coachella and suchlike.

I mean rock and Jazz were rooted in black culture and who do we know as the King Of Rock?

A white man.

And who are some of the biggest names in Jazz?

White men.

Sure, I believe it's fine to have white people be involved with these genres - my high school jazz band consisted of ALL white people. But we must remind people about the roots of the genre and why they were so important to the culture.

There's even examples from the past such as Saartjie who was a black woman that was forced to join the circus. Her figure was then copied by the fashions of the day and white women were applauded for their tight corsets and large bottoms - but black women were considered ugly.

It might be a new term, but it's not a new concept.

Not to attack you, but how old are you and where are you from btw?:oprah:

It just seem like you aren’t aware of many issues...

And I don’t want to seem mean in anyway, but just because a term is coined in a certain time period doesn’t mean it is new information.

I mean racism and appropriation have DEEP roots in America that started hundreds of years ago - we can’t act like these issues are just being brought up today.

And people have cared about the color of skin for an entertainer way BEFORE the 2010’s - just because it goes unspoken doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen.

Then why have we only heard the term used in the last 2 years? I literally never heard this phrase until then. Maybe the concept was under another name before?

Just because you haven't heard of it before (with or without a term) doesn't mean it never existed before you came along ... :awkney:

But this certainly wasn't a big deal back then. I remember a YouTube comment that once said that cultural appropriation was invented in 2003 and therefore, as it's such a new concept, really should be dissected more before waving it around with reckless abandon. People are just jumped on a trend now and it's exhausting.

It most definitely was and continues to be a big deal to those marginalized communities that were affected. Those conversations were most definitely going on around those times ... it's only more prominent now because of the platform that social media has given to those communities to shine light on these issues. The reason why perhaps you've never heard it happening because was because you weren't listening. :trollga:

If you take that serious, that’s because you want to.

He was joking :ladyhaha:

If Gaga said this all of you would be saying “omg she’s so cute and funny OMG”

No I wouldn’t, and no she wouldn’t make such a lazy cheap joke. If everything Timberlake says is a punchline why should anyone take him seriously? :ladyhaha:

Again, everyone’s being uptight. Obviously, JT isn’t just doing this for a fun little performance. I’m pretty sure he understands what he’s about to do.

I’m not denying he cares about his performance. He knows everyone will be watching. He means business, even though he tries to portray this image of someone who doesn’t take himself seriously.

Honestly he is very talented, but he is so annoying. He’s the sort of guy who is always laughing at other people, but then he gets offended when you laugh at him because you thought he was joking but he was actually being “serious”.

I’ve never got that vibe from him and would like receipts....

but it would be way off topic :staymad:
