Lily Allen makes offensive statement about Rochdale victims

British singer, Lily Allen, has come under fire for seemingly victim blaming the victims of grooming and sex trafficking in Rochdale. She was asked by a Twitter follower if the grooming gangs, (of British South-Asian Muslim men) would have raped their British white female victims if the attackers had not been allowed into the UK. Lily responded: "Actually, there's a strong possibility they would have been raped or abused by somebody else at some point. That's kind of the issue." She later apologised for the offence she caused but her statement was somewhat undermined by adding that saying sorry makes a strong person:

Let's not beat around the bush here. Lily has recently reinvented herself as a socially conscious celebrity who's focused on the plight of "real" people. She has been especially supportive of allowing more refugees into Britain and even offered to house some of them. But this statement backfired on her considering she's failed to live up to her promise as of yet and didn't get the irony of complaining on Twitter that the people who were renting her house were refusing to leave, claiming diplomatic immunity, and she was going to be homeless for Christmas. She's been called a champagne socialist by many. So, it strikes me as no surprise that she's willing to victim blame white girls purely to somewhat defend the (proven) attackers because they were non-white. I understand that this is a deeply controversial thing to say, but let's be honest. If this was a white grooming gang who abused white girls, or a white grooming gang who abused Pakistani-British girls, would she be making these pathetic excuses? Highly unlikely.

Sometimes, controversial stuff like this has to be addressed because we're in a dangerous time right now where crimes can be excused because those who speak up are too afraid of being called racist, no matter how valid their accusations are. It is well noted that the police involved in this case reluctantly admitted that they ignored the families of these girls who reported the crimes because they didn't want to start questioning Muslim men, hence, come across as racist. I have a shocking account of one of the girls who said: "The police told my parents that I was a prostitute, it was my choice and because I was only a few months away from turning 16, that they weren't going to do anything." This is the reality of what is going on. This issue is one that is not spoken of in liberal circles because the subject is too tough to speak of but it's vital to speak of it is justice is to be served. This isn't a question of not letting Muslims into the country or profiling Muslims or in any way being racist towards Muslims. It's about listening to the victims, investigating and getting to the truth, no matter what race it involves. Every rapist should be vilified, no matter their race and every rape victim should be sided with, no matter their race.

Lol her statement isn't even offensive, it's just a sad truth. Some of these women probably already had experienced sexual assault at the hands of white men. This is not a "foreigners disrespect our women" thing, this is a "men don't respect women on a global scale" problem.

That she had to apologize for it because of right-wing nutjobs painting it as if she disrespected rape victims, when she just called out the hypocrisy of people focussing on people of color committing sexual assault while giving white men a (society) pass for doing the same. They're trying to make it out as if she said "If they can rape, why can't they too?" which is not the truth. :saladga:

Her statement wasn’t that these women ask to be raped

Her statement was pointing out the sad truth that sexual assault is so prevaling throughout the world that it’s likely they’d be raped.

Okay im glad im not the only one who thought people were completely looking at this wrong

I thought she was suggesting that these women are just as likely to be raped elsewhere because of how society treats women, not because of who they are or anything.

Now please Lily, release LA4 and the Trigger Bang MV

Why do people tend to care about rape/violence if it's a minority causing the crime?

That's rhetorical.

Let's move on because we all know what she meant. I'm waiting for the media to ask people about rape in general and not when it's politically relevant to cause divisiveness.

I am EXHAUSTED of people being offended over dumb sh*t.

I don't call the insinuation that someone would have raped a rape victim sooner or later to be "dumb s**t."

It's not a sad truth. Not all these girls were "at risk" or whatever you want to call it. Some of them came from middle class homes with supportive families, they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. As I understand it, none of these girls  experienced abuse from anyone previously. Just because some were poor doesn't mean that they were at risk of sexual assault. Of course men don't respect women on a global scale and I've never denied that. But the truth is also undeniable that white girls are routinely preyed upon by men of certain backgrounds. Considering that these men originate from a place where lots of women are forced into covering themselves from head to toe, can get stoned to death for various transgressions and where honour killings happen...is it really surprising that they have a disrespectful view of white women and everything they represent? That they think any woman who doesn't cover herself and lives her life the way she wants is asking for it? Not all of them think that this, obviously, but we really underestimate how many of them do. A study published recently by a counter-radicalism think tank proclaimed that 84% of sex grooming gangs in the UK involved British-South Asian men. This report was led by 2 South Asian men. And they said these findings should be a wake up call to their community. I'm all for being anti-profiling and giving everyone a chance but sometimes, the truth has to be addressed and who's coming into the country needs to be vetted a whole lot better than it is.

You don't have to be a right wing nutjob to think what she said was awful. Its been understood that you never suggest a rape victim could have been raped by someone else or could have had their situation made worse. That's just basic human compassion. She could easily have said something like "Yes, there is a problem with criminals entering our country but that doesn't mean that we should be distrustful of them all because of the few who give the many a bad name." That would have been perfectly fine. But she chose to focus on the victims, not the abusers. That's the ultimate no-no. Let's be honest, you'd think very differently if the races were reversed and think the victims deserve to be spoken of more respectfully, right? Why aren't white girls treated with the same care and respect by the left when stuff like this happens? Why is their situation justified and their stories deemed unimportant but the exact same thing happening to a girl of colour is treated much more respectfully? Nobody was giving white men a free pass. I can assure you that most white people have no sympathy for rapists. A lot of them believe they deserve to be castrated, that jail is too good for them. And contrary to what you might think, such beliefs run through conservative society as well. You've misread the case if you believe they were justifying white rapists. The question that truly needs to be asked is: "Why don't the left vilify non-white rapists to the same degree that they (rightfully) vilify white rapists?" When it comes to something as serious as rape, there can be no PC/SJW sympathies. If there's a cultural problem with how the white population is viewed by the Muslim population, this is a problem that needs to be addressed and sorted. Every other culture wants to protect its women. Why can't we?

See what I just said above. I didn't say she implied they were asking for it but rather that their backgrounds made them susceptible, when that's just a pathetic justification. And have you not considered how insensitive it is to basically say: "Raped now, raped later, what's the difference? A girl like you? Probably going to happen at some point, sex grooming gang or not"? Think what it would do to the survivor's self esteem to read something like that. It is worth noting that Lily has 2 young daughters. I doubt she'd be happy about anyone saying such a statement about them if the worst ever happened. As with a lot of people like her, they're all high and mighty about certain issues until they're on the receiving end of it and then they start to feel quite different.

I don't get offended by every little thing...but I happen to take a very harsh line when someone seems to be excusing and softening the crime of rape. It's a big problem in our society and Lily is inadvertently helping to keep certain misconceptions about it alive.

How is suggesting that someone was going to get raped by someone sooner or later... not victim blaming? Look at this from a neutral viewpoint for a second.

No, this isn't why most people are getting offended, especially if you read the comments. It's because she made a disgusting implication about the victims. I read through almost all of these 900 comments and not one of them said anything about "not all men are like this."

She does it to herself. She's always being hypocritical, making promises she can't keep, suggesting that conservatives are the source of all evil. I mean, she she's rich and lives in a big house yet never took in one refugee like she claimed she would. It's no wonder the media discredit someone who's so clearly full of it.

Rhetorical or not, they don't. White people have a real disgust for all rapists, I see it all the time. White people like to disown criminals, we don't glorify them or defend them. You'll find it's usually whites calling for the harshest sentences when it comes to crime. Some even want the death penalty brought back. All the time, I see white people claiming the sentences of a white criminal wasn't enough.

Politically relevant or not, it's an important issue. I want the women in my country to be safe, especially because I'm one of them. Why is it so bad to point out a clear link when it comes to our abuse?

I would advise against reading comments. The comments on the dailymail are tainted by the fact that all dailymail readers are idiots, AND they all think the same thing, even if it's wrong.

She was clearly saying that men like to rape women and these girls would likely have been raped eventually no matter what. Essentially, men are the problem. Not that it is their fault or that they deserved it.

Whoever you are watching or whatever you are reading, is making you see things that aren't there.

I read the comments to get an idea of what the public are thinking. And not everyone on DM think the same. There are liberals on there, believe it or not. And for a liberal, a group which claims to be against blanket statements of entire groups, you seem a bit too happy to negatively smear an entire group of people as idiots. Considering that it was claimed that most people are annoyed because they claim all men aren't like that, I wanted to prove that wasn't the case. But apparently, I can't defend the truth. Only truth that supports a liberal viewpoint is allowed to be defended. Most opinions aren't wrong either. That's the whole nature of an opinion.

No, not all men like to rape women. That's way too much of a generalised statement. And you seriously don't see why what you just said was problematic? What a dark message to send. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in women, does it? Basically tells them to lock themselves in their houses, but oh no, they're not even safe there if men live there too! What warped thinking. Sure, she's pointing the finger at men but fails to spot a clear pattern that the acknowledging of could make all the difference.

Your last sentence could easily be said about you as you clearly only look at liberal propaganda that brainwashes you into believing that all white people are essentially guilty and all non whites are essentially innocent instead of just judging on individual cases and establishing societal patterns.
