Oh my god. Do you realize how rude even this sentence sounds? "You should know better." :saladga:

You are aren't that person parent, or teacher. Don't tell people what they should and shouldn't know, simply because it's something you "claim" to know. Stop.

Anyone who doesn't understand the context should know better. It's just a call to educate. I don't hate that user... We're clearly just having a conversation. Stop attacking people every damn second.

Did you say something to them or just let it slide?

I let it slide, which I kinda regret/still feel conflicted about. I was in the library working and the dude 100% did not hear it, he had earphones in and was working too. We and the two girls were like seperated by two desks, and I either would have had to holler at them loudly or get up to the other side and tell them. Both would have definitely caught the attention of the black guy and other people at the library. So it would have been like "Hello nice sir, I have to inform you that those two hoes over were mocking you in a racist way, have a great day." but also I don't wanna just... speak for him. There are also lots of black people who have internalized white supremacy/look at it from a quite "edgy" standpoint and I don't wanna pretend like I'm his white knight that gives him a voice and end up with a response like "they called me money.... and?" (which happened to me in a similar extent already before). If I saw that he was visibly uncomfortable or angry I probably would have said something but... he was unbothered editing a video.

And that term can be a sensitive topic for some individuals. Clearly there are many folks who can't put themselves into the shoes of others. Is this a huge issue? No. I think this could've been handled differently. But placing blame on a victim and making them a racist if they correlate a message is worse.

Ironically enough these "anti-SJW" claim only "liberal privileged people" complain and are "offended by everything" yet they don't listen to the "actual victims" of oppression either.

I do listen to victims of oppression all the time. Some of them do focus on the genuinely major problems affecting their people and these are the issues I want to see changed. But then there are the ones who just want to pick apart the small stuff, the "microaggressions," the stuff that doesn't make an impact in the long term. And then there are those who deliberately read too much into something innocent to interpret it as malicious. Unsurprisingly, I have very little time for these kinds of people. If I were black, I'd be focused on much bigger issues than someone touching my hair or not spelling my name right. And for the record, both those things have happened to me as a white person on multiple occasions. So, as you can see, it gets to me when such instances are referred to as "things that only happen to people of colour" in this day and age.

You won't see these people being passionate about discrimination, they're only passionate about being "anti-SJW" because it feeds their egos and makes them feel like intellectuals.

I never set out to be "anti-SJW," nor do I call myself that. I'm just someone who thinks for myself and uses logic, reason and evidence to work things out, not overly focusing on political affiliations. I'm passionate about the discrimination that actually matters, not the minor stuff (some of which has been misinterpreted anyway). But the likes of you always coincidentally miss the times I stand up for people of colour. I notice you weren't present on the thread the other day where I displayed my disapproval of any use of the n word, for example. I don't do this to feed my ego or feel like an intellectual, I do it because it releases my frustration over the nonsense in this world and hopefully makes some other people consider my point of view if they didn't before. And honestly, your final assertion is the way that I've always looked at SJWs. It's ironic that opposing sides always accuse each other of the same flaws.

Yea, and let's see if these people in this thread will come to talk about the real racism that they talk so dearly about. If it's not about sweaters then I expect them to support the end to whatever real oppression they think is important.

The instances of real racism that I care so deeply about are...use of the n word, the KKK, racial segregation of blacks and whites at prom in some southern high schools (does that still go on?), employers refusing to take on a person of colour who has the same qualifications as whites, the police doing "random" stop and searches that don't seem so random, anyone on the alt right who is advocating for an ethnostate, and any number of sick f**ks out there who personally want to to track down, beat up and even kill someone just for being a person of colour.

You know, the serious stuff, the life changing stuff. In some cases, the life ending stuff. So, pardon me, if in among all this serious worrying, I get irritated when someone tries to bring up how a white person touching their hair or saying their name wrong is some kind of cardinal sin that needs to be addressed by the government. As I said before, if I were black, I'd think there were slightly more important things to see to. I've gone through some of these so called racial microaggressions as a white person and while they're annoying, I don't see them as discriminatory and whatnot. Just an unfortunate little stumbling block in life. I don't see why it automatically translates into racism when you're not white. There can be all manner of reasons why someone would discriminate against you that don't even involve skin colour.

Have white people ever been oppressed like black folks being called monkeys though?

The point wasn't to engage in a "who's more oppressed" argument, the point is that there are negative terms associated with the words "cracker" and "mayo" for white people but it doesn't mean we want to disassociate ourselves from these foods because of it. Likewise, why should black people want to to disassociate themselves from anything to do with monkeys just because there's some unfortunate name calling involved? If that's your line of logic, can black people not work in a zoo in a monkey enclosure? Most people do not hold these racist connotations. Disassociating yourself from everything that has a negative association for people like you is no way to live.

Compares an extensive history of Black people being mocked and called monekys to white people recently getting called mayo. A Mess.

You've completely misinterpreted what I meant. Read the post above for details. In fact, read this entire post considering that you're yet another person on here accusing me of being a racist (and not even quoting me or @'ing me while doing it in the hope I won't notice) and you need to see what feelings I truly hold as opposed to the feelings you think I hold.

Just one other question? That image of the child in the monkey sweat shirt when I looked it up every picture was from a website that did not have the American $ sign. So was it something the US could see too or just other countries? I'm asking because a lot of the articles I read and the talk on the radio here seems to point it being something Americans could see on the website. I always found H&M to be a very inclusive retailer. The whole thing kind of doesn't make sense. That picture would have had to be approved by at least ten people before it went to print or on the website.

I just looked up H&M's website, both the UK version and international version (assuming that ".com" covers everyone) and yeah, weirdly, it only shows British money signs each time. Odd because they are indeed inclusive but I don't know if all their products go out to all countries. But international should be everyone, right? I can only research this so far, I'm afraid.

Is that a reference to me? It commands far more respect if you actually engage with my points, even if it's to disagree as opposed to responding with a "Nicki gives death stare" gif.

I'm quoting you because I know I'm one of the people you're talking about when you say stuff like this. We've been at loggerheads often enough to know that we're always in each toehrs minds when this stuff arises. Plenty of people who dislike me around here throw shade and make subtle digs at me without saying my name but are clearly talking about me. I'm not stupid. And even when I make a post that makes me think: "this is finally the one that'll get through to them," you don't even acknowledge it. I literally just made a list of what I consider real racial problems in society that I feel passionately about, putting my money where my mouth is like you've been suggesting I do all along, finally doing something to prove to you that I'm not not racist...and you don't even acknowledge any of it. Wow. You really want to hate me that much, don't you?

Deadass. I’ve read enough of your responses and engaged in enough conversations with you when it comes to race. I’m not here for more essays on issues I deal with on a regular basis and how I should deal with them.

I can be short and sweet if you want me to be. But that's usually when I'm being rude, so maybe not. Maybe you should refer back to the list I made of the genuine racial problems that I feel passionate about and want to change before you insinuate that I'm a racist again.

I’m sorry but I love how all these white members are telling black people what is and isn’t racist in their eyes haha... Child.

Had his shirt said anything Gay related y’all would be crying haha. Even if it was a mistake or not, who doesn’t know black people were called monkeys? Oh right they don’t teach that in history class.

May I Read You? 😎

I haven’t interacted with you on this site in probably months. My post was a general post and not about anyone in specific. However if the shoe fits, well, you know.

I don’t know why you feel the need to prove to ME anything...
